Title: HOLY SMOKES.....A fire TORNADO!!!
Post by: Monster Dave on August 25, 2010, 12:12:42 PM
 :o

As if regular tornado's weren't bad enough! If this isn't the scariest natural phenomena that I've ever scene I can't imagine much else being more horrifying!

Apparently the most recent one was in Brazil:

The last most devastating one occurred back in the 1920's when it killed 38,000 people in Tokyo! 38,000 people!!!

I've scene plenty of Arizona "dust devils" but nothing even remotly close to a fire tornado!!

I think the fire storm during the bombing of Dresden counst as one of the greatest columns of fire.  I saw a documentary on it years ago claiming that the fire column created such a great current of wind that people were sucked off their feet and into the column.

There are at least three accounts of Pillars of fire in the Bible I can think of. Pretty fearsome events. I like the one about the pillar of fire on Mt Horeb and blackening the whole top of the mountain.

generally not, since dust devils, fire whirls, etc... are all caused by battling winds (changing wind directions)

they are actually a pretty common site in wildfires, especially in the great basin. the bigger ones are uncommon though.

and they have nothing on a rolling crown fire...

Substitute square feet with acre
