Title: methyl hydrate ?

so is it safe to use in a plastic tank monster ? more specfic 06 s2r

i think it would be ok , but just want to make sure , figure its time for a clean out

no one ever use methyl in there cars for the e-test

if no one responds by tomorrow screw it in she goes , lets see if the tank and or lines melt ...lol

Why didn't you just say methyl alcohol or methanol? Might have gotten more replies.  As far as your question,  no I would not recommend putting methanol in your bike's tank for a couple reasons. 1) its well known ethyl alcohol used in gasoline can cause the nylon tanks used in Monsters to swell, I'd image methyl would have similar or worse effect since it is more polar and more of solvent than ethanol.  2) Fuel lines inside the tank and outside are not designed to be compatible with methanol or even ethanol.   That said a short term intermittent for cleaning purposes probably would not be exposed long enough to cause any significant damage, just don't leave it in too long.  However I'm curious why you'd want to use alcohol to clean the fuel system?

Is e-test an emissions test?  If so, it might help with a borderline open loop vehicle.   That assumes you are not already running E10 (gasahol) like most of us in the US are.  If so, I would not add alcohol since this gets you over 10%.  Will one time hurt your tank? No.

The issue with ethanol is not a direct interaction with the nylon surface, it is ethanol's moisture absorption behavior.  Nylon absorbs water unless treated.  Ethanol absorbs ambient moisture and then gravity pulls both down, so you have a puddle of water at the bottom of your tank in direct contact with the tank inner surface.

Methyls and methanol should be ok if diluted and run thru.  Methanol will absorb water just the same, but bear in mind there has to be humidity for it to absorb (and figure at least 30-40% ambient).  In a dry climate, there is probably not much risk.

You risk some exposure to your system, but AFAIK all of the lines and injectors are modern materials and will withstand exposure to alcohol just fine -- the tank being the only real problem and that is a secondary process affecting it.

That being said, what are you trying to do?

Ok so i want to use it to clean the injectors and any deposits in the combustion chamber , i would use 1 liter in a 99% full tank

as for use in an emission test i have no idea what it does but the higher the mix rate the higher chance you have of passing

in Canada we are not on Gasohol , just 1 company has a 10% on there premium fuel ( Sunnoco )

i have had cars not pass on a first run e-test but after 4 litres of Methyl , bingo pass


at least i dont want to use seafaom ...lol

I am not surprised, most of the commercially-available EFI/carb cleaners that you add to the gas tank are some combination of ethanol and methanol and terbutane (sic).  I forgot the whole list.  E10 is shit for gas but it actually does keep the fuel injectors clean if you use it fresh.  Once it sits for more than a few weeks with any humidity, you are pushing water thru the system with it.
