Title: chain swap Post by: CougarSlayer on June 07, 2008, 02:23:21 AM Well I went to the dealer to see what can be done to swap out the chain it was recommended to swap it now that all links are are not aligned with the others. Basically, it seems like some of the links are bent. It was also recommended to swap out the sprockets as well. I was just wondering what was the normal practice to determine one when the chain needs to be replaced and two do you normally change the sprockets as well. To me if the chain needs to be replaced it would only make sense to replace the sprockets as well.

It is pretty common practice to replace sprockets if the chain has gotten really bad, because the sprockets generally get pretty well fubared by a bad chain. If your chain has been like this for any length of time, you probably need the sprockets. On the other hand, your sprockets could be totally fine. If you have stock sprockets, and money isn't a huge issue for you, I'd recommend getting new sprockets, and going up 2 or 3 in the rear. You will get the same effect as the 14t front sprocket, and your chain will last longer. Justin |
