Title: Helping my wife help others.....---UPDATE---
Post by: Charlief on August 29, 2010, 04:01:17 AM
My wife Jill has signed up for "Light the Night Walk" here in MA.  She was inspired to do so by two DMF'ers she met at DIMBY. Randy Max and Stella are two great people who believe in a cause.... Wiping out blood cancers.

Though my wife and I are not up to their physical.fitness...they do a bike ride that we are not fit for!  We are starting with a small three mile walk.

Normally I keep personal matters off the interwebs but this one hits close to home. Jill is one of those people that the money raised will hopefully  find a cure for when she needs treatment. Right now she's in great health but it is something our minds are on all the time.

If you can click the button and donate a little it is all appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to read and if you can't donate.... Just be happy and enjoy those around you.

Charlie

We're humbled Charlie – thank you.  It's because of people like Jill that keep us motivated to ride, walk, hike...to find blood cancer cures.

What is the date of your Light the Night?  I didn't see it in the link....

Good luck and huge hugs to you and Jill!!!!

Jill's fundraising effort is going quite well so far!  [thumbsup]

Glad to see a fair number of DMFers on the donation list as well.  [beer]

People like Jill inspire riders to cycle 100 miles in near 100 degree heat (or run or hike or swim), to raise money and raise awareness in the efforts to cure blood cancers.

Because that mass that begins in the lower/center part of the video believes that she is worth it.

Apologies for the poor videography [roll]

It's FANTASTIC to see all of this support going on to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I've been watching this stuff (Light the Night, Team In Training) since they were developed when I was little. My Mom has worked for LLS for... jeez.. going on 17 years now... I can tell you that not only do the patients you raise money for care about this, so do the people at the very top and all of the way down. The patient support programs and research that LLS has implemented and funded is making great strides in the treatment of not only the diseases, but the people who have them. Patient Advocacy is one of the largest and most time consuming areas the Society participates in, but they truly believe that it makes a difference.

Charlie and Jill, Randimus and Stella, SheMonster and Monster Dave: thanks for being such outstanding people.  [clap]

My older brother when he was 30 had lymphoma. He made it . He had a 3 lb tumor removed from his heart and then 16 weeks of chemo followed by 6 weeks of radiation. He had non hodgkinsons lymphoma. The doctors and nursing staff in the UK were fantastic, my hat is off to them.
Thanks for helping guys, its nice to know that somewhere someone like me will be able to have an older brother around for a while longer........
Thanks!

The walk was this past Sunday. Weather was a little chilly. A great fall evening for walking around the lake in Wakefield. There seem to be a few hundred people for the walk.

I want to thank every one for their donations and well wishes.  Jill was one of only a handful of people who raised over $1000!!

I couldn't do the walk because of a hip injury but a couple close friends accompanied Jill on the walk.

A few pictures of the night.
