Title: Lawnmower deal
Post by: ducatiz on September 01, 2010, 05:15:38 AM
I picked up an Ariens mower at the Merrifield Home Depot yesterday afternoon -- they are on clearance for $169.

This is a 22" deck, mulcher or bag and self propelled walk-behind mower.  Has a Kohler OHV 173cc motor rated at about 4.5hp.

They are highly rated by consumer reports.  They were originally $259.  I think they have 4-5 left, none of the other stores have them.

Self priming engine, pretty slick.

Son of a pregnant dog.

I JUST bought a new mower last week.

If you bought it at Home Depot, they have a 30 day return, no questions asked on lawnmowers!

I have a 5.5 HP push mower sitting in storage that I think I am not going to need that I'd be willing to sell for much less than either of those.

Any idea if that holds true if you trashed the box...? I mean I could call them but that would be far too efficient.

no warranty implied...I drained most of the gas out of it and then ran the rest out of it back in July before I moved for putting it into storage since I have no lawn to be mowed now.

I bought the Ariens about 3 months ago.  My favorite mower so far.  Starts first pull every time!

I wouldn't buy a mower without a warranty.  I feel weird buying a bike or car used ofttimes because I have no idea how the previous owner treated it.  Esp with a diesel car, like my TDI, which requires specially approved oil or the cams break.

People treat mowers like shit.  People who barely know how to maintain a car can't be expected to change the oil and tune up their mowers.  I am not saying this about YOU, just my feeling in general about used mowers.  Plus, it's not like they make it easy to change the oil on a mower.  THey are much better nowadays -- I remember the Toro I had growing up, you had to turn it UPSIDE DOWN to drain the old oil -- WTF?

well...not like I am asking a federal mint for it...only lookin to get like $60 bucks for it...it is a 5 year old Murray 22'' that I have changed the oil in it 4 times and it was used a half a dozen times each year for about 25 mins of cutting each time...

IZ I hear what you are saying though...and on some things, I can completely understand...

and on TDi's...I know all too well...thankfully, we well inform OUR customers of that beforehand so as to avoid costly mistakes that piss them off and drive them away because of their own stupidity.
