Title: Scotch-Brite: Which side to use on rotors?
Post by: csorin on September 03, 2010, 03:59:48 PM
Hey guys,

Looking to clean up my rotors this weekend.  Which side of the scotch-brite pads do you guys use?  The tough green side, or the softer yellow?  Also, any other uses for the these?  Can I scrub my engine block with it?

Scotch-Brite will remove paint.

Not a good choice for painted surfaces.

Never saw a two sided Scotch-Brite.  I use the green on the friction surface of the rotor with brake cleaner.  If you wouldn't use sand paper, emery cloth or steel wool on a surface don't use a Scotch Brite

[bang]  Are you referring to    http://www.scotch-brite.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Scotch-BriteBrand/Scotch-Brite/Products/Catalog/?PC_7_RJH9U52300V2E0I02BK7KM0GT3_nid=RB57JFL0TNgs7XLWLFJB1BglL1TNXXC74Hbl&prodID=RB57JFL0TNgs&lang=en_US (http://www.scotch-brite.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Scotch-BriteBrand/Scotch-Brite/Products/Catalog/?PC_7_RJH9U52300V2E0I02BK7KM0GT3_nid=RB57JFL0TNgs7XLWLFJB1BglL1TNXXC74Hbl&prodID=RB57JFL0TNgs&lang=en_US)  or  http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=50 (http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=50)  ?

The second type is what I use on the friction surfaces of the rotors.  I use green.  They will scratch the carriers.
