Yerp I will be heading over - just not with Vossy  [laugh].  Will be taking my S2R on it's first long distance voyage.  Last time I rode to the Island (2005) I took my 650 Pantah.  [moto]

Staying on the Island 20 mins walk from the track

Heather if you don't mind staying with a bunch of blokes there might be some room where we are too.

Does anyone want my number?  :(

Thanks very much for the offer.  Several OzMonsters have survived sharing accommodation with me previously. Some more than once!!

At this stage I still don't know if I'm going to the GP.  I'm squeezing in another road trip between then and now so not sure where I'll be at the time.

However, if I'm back in Victoria and I don't go I could still ride a little way with you guys.  I live in Hamilton - not far from Mount Gambier.

posted from another list

Do you know anyone that is looking for accommodation on Phillip Island.
The house has three bedrooms, one of which has a set of bunks. I want to get one of the bunks, but we need to find somebody else to fill the other bunk.
The cost would be $275 for 4 nights, from the 14th of October.
It also has a garage to store the bikes.
Please email me if there is anyone that is looking for accommodation.

Regards,
Graham Coleman

People might get mixed up and go knock on M Doohan's door.
Doesn't he have a black Jet Ranger or is he flying an EC now.

I am a last minute inclusion. Wasn't planning on going but a mate and his partner had it all organised...until they broke up and he ended up with the credit card bill for the trip. So I stepped in to help him recover costs and fill the spot.

I'll be catching the barge over from Tas on Thurday night. Might see a few friends in Melb before heading down to PI on Friday. I am staying in Cowes somewhere but not exactly sure yet. All I know is its a house I am sharing with s few other friends.

Catch the barge back again Monday night.

I'm up for dinner if we arrange a DMF get together. [drink] [beer] [thumbsup]

Is there anybody that has been down to the Island that knows how this might work?

Would it be practically impossible to all grab dinner at the same place? Will someone have the facilities to host an Ozmo get-together?

Ideas people?

Cowes itself will probably be a friggin nightmare with a lot of the restaurants booked in advance - would have to check now for availability.  There are a couple on the main drag leading in to Cowes that may have the parking facilities.

Last time we actually ventured off the Island to San Remo, last little town right before you cross the bridge to the Island.  Nice pub there and it didnt seem as crowded as Cowes.  Parking could be easier too!

Open for suggestion, but I would definitely like to catch up with the rest of the OzMo riders!  [thumbsup] [moto]

Again I am a newbie to this stuff ... but my first thought was that that would be even less likely. Meet people throughout the weekend maybe, but not a mass gathering ???

Last time there was a group there for WSBK (of course less people) we exchanged numbers beforehand
and did our best to make a meeting one of the afternoons. Friday was best as there are usually a few less
people around.
Not that I'm going for Moto GP but Friday could be your best chance of making a meeting point and doing your best
to stick to the time/place.

Happy GP people.

Do we have any confirmed numbers for the GP?

I sort of make it about 9 or 10?

It's problably getting a bit late but how's our chances of booking somewhere for dinner. (I have to remember to count my 5 other travel mates for dinner as well or else my name will be mud)
shit,   that brings it up too 15 and counting

The other thing too is which night would suit people.

For me, the Friday night would be better because I've already got plans for Saturday night (could bail out though)

Title: Re: MotoGp - Phillip Island October 2010
Post by: Betty on September 30, 2010, 05:09:03 PM
Vossy I think the most sensible option is probably Friday night (or Thursday or Monday [laugh]). As for booking (whether too late or not) I wouldn't know where to start.

I don't know if it needs to be a formal occasion (for which I suspect we would probably need definite numbers and a deposit) ... how about takeaway pizza at the beach ???

Anybody that knows their way around thesethings/theisland care to make a suggestion?

Title: Re: MotoGp - Phillip Island October 2010
Post by: vossy on September 30, 2010, 05:21:05 PM
I think the take-a-way pizza thing sounds like it could be the go.
we would have to order the pizza as soon as we meet up so it will be ready when we are about to leave. [cheeky]

There are a few options on takeaway in the main street of Cowes.
The earlier we get there the better.

Just a suggestion - we meet up in the Coles supermarket carpark on the Friday at 6 - 7 pm ?
and go from there (whether it be park the bikes somewhere and get some food or go and order our food and have a beer while we wait)

+1 for the pizza & Coles thing on the Friday night - or we could go to Subway where I have seen Nicky Hayden having a foot long....then again...... [cheeky]

The owners of the Isle of Wight have opened across the road at The Continental Hotel. [beer]

They conviently bought it in preparation for the proposed redevelopment.

It only rained a little this morning and I only have 2 doonas on the bed now.  [roll]

You can always depend on PI weather being Antarctic for at least one of the days of GP and scorching the next.

yeah remember one year it poured in the morning of the race, then was beautiful sunshine that afternoon!  I normally sit down at Siberia and the wind definitely comes up off the Antarctic!  ;D

I'm fighting to get fit enough for the trip this year.

I did something (strain I think) to my lower back on Monday.
Have had a session on Bowen Therapy and some acupuncture to help with recovery.
Either way I'm still riding.
Nothing is going to stop me riding over (as I touch wood)

look forward to meeting fellow OZMo's who make it over.

as for the PI weather, well you just have to put up with it and just enjoy the MotoGP experience.

so I should be on the lookout for a Monster heading over with the rider taped to a broom handle??

yeah dont worry mate I am not putting on the blouse - have been changing clutch plates, thrust bearings, bleeding things all in preparation - next Wednesday cant come quick enough!  [thumbsup]

and as for PI weather - well that is all part of the character of the place?  Still reckon Siberia is the best corner, then turns 11 and 12 after that! [moto]

Ouch. If Bowen doesn't fix it nothing will. And do some (gentle) yoga stretches (not twists) every morning.  [thumbsup]  If all else fails just drink away the pain.  [drink]

Title: Re: MotoGp - Phillip Island October 2010
Post by: vossy on October 07, 2010, 07:01:11 PM
last year I averaged 190 to 200kms with luggage when the light came on. (sticking to the speed limit)

But we usually only do anywhere from 160/170kms to 190kms before we fuel up. (have a thirsty S4R traveling with us)

yeah cool sounds about what I am expecting from my bike - I am travelling with a ST2, a BMW GS1000, and a super tanker (Triumph Sprint with a 22 litre tank I think!)

So I am banking on about 5 stops!

Yep.  I have to ride to Melb on Wednesday so my bike can get some loving from Brad, riding home Thursday with a new back tyre. (not going to GP)
Weather looks like typical bloody Victorian weather.  But you'll be needing sunscreen by Sunday I'm sure.

Have a great time at the GP everyone.

Hi all,

Looks like I'll be heading down late Friday arvo after work and staying somewhere in Ventnor with some friends.  Keen to catch up with all the crew if that's possible.
The pizza on the beach idea sounds great.  PM me with contact info please.

Cheers,
Rob

Bloody pouring in Tas at the moment. I might get a clear window to head north to Devonport on Thursday and down to the island on Friday. Gonna have to pack all the wet weather gear now.

If i remember to take the OZ monster cards you might all get one left on your bike. Maybe pick up a few new members.

See you all there.

If your watching TV I'll be the guy in the Ducati shirt. Try to pick me out.

Hey all, safe riding to the island.

I'll be heading down Friday morning, well thats the plan at this stage - depends on the weather and how many drinks I have with 3 Crow Eaters who will be crashing here thursday night.

Might see some of you around the track, I'll be the other guy with a red ducati t-shirt  ;)

If the XXXX Retreat is back, I might be found there, I spent the whole weekend there last year  [beer]

Nice to see Victoria is laying on it's finest weather for all the visitors. I rode 4hrs home in torrential rain and gale force winds. Had to backtrack to the main road as some back roads had just too much water on them. Only aquaplaned once with the new back tyre.  :o
I too will be watching the GP from my cozy loungeroom surrounded by lots of drying out riding gear.  [beer]

What a great time I had!

Spent Wednesday riding down to Colac through Edenhope, Mortlake and some other bicycle tracks!
Thursday went from Colac to Apollo Bay along GOR - weather was really good!  Headed to Queenscliffe - ferry - then Sorrento and on to Phillip Island!
Even though weather was cold and wet Friday and Saturday come Sunday race it was great sunny weather - enough to get a bit of a tan!
Met Jukie and Vossy!  [thumbsup]
Ride home was very cold but reasonably dry!
Most impressed with my Monster on the trip - averaged 5litres per 100km!  [moto] ;D

not sure if you were there Mmick - but what they showed on tv was not the full coverage - good old Wayne "the Train" at first ran over to Faubel, then attempted to punch him through the visor, twice, then pushed him over twice.  The Aussie fans were greatly impressed.... :P

So, back home and thawed.  I haven't been so cold on the bike for a very long time.

Fantastic to meet some of the crew from all around the place!  Betty, Jukie, Vossy, Andy55, techno, and I think Mr.S2R.

Great to see a win for Casey too.  Re the moto2 antics I don't think we''l be seeing Wayne in the big time again.

Cheers.

A 5000 Euro fine and a lifetime ban from MotoGp is the result.

yep, what a douche bag.

got halted in Corryong on the way down due to flooded roads - ended up riding through 4 flooded sections...feet up near your hands to stop water getting into your boots!

lots of aqua-planing and loose front-end, but Sunday was sensational in true PI fashion - never can pick the weather down there. Bumped into Jukie and The Don(at Gundagai on the way back). Also met a guy called Kent who rode down from Sydney on a 620.

Epic trip this year thanks to those rains.

So then, who was that last person that joined us at Coles?  Any ideas?  ???

That would be Hambo if my memory serves me correctly (unless it was frozen)

What a fantastic weekend! [thumbsup] [thumbsup]

Besides Ducati and Stoner winning, the highlight of the weekend was meeting up with all the other OzMo's who made the trek down to the island (for Techno , up to the island) and bravely fought the wind, cold and rain. [clap] [clap]

A special thanks to Jukie for organising the troops, and for the dance  :-*(legend) Hope you and Betty had a safe trip home.

I got home just on dark yesterday after two days of sensational riding weather. Got to do the Black and Reefton spurs on Monday with very little traffic and NO PLOD! [thumbsup]

My only bummer was that I picked up a piece of wire in my rear tyre, so I now have a slow leak. :( also not to metion the big grey roo that tried to kill me only a few Kms from home..

After sloshing around in the PI mud on the weekend my Bike boots are toast. They're 12yr old) Good excuse to pick some new ones up for my Birthday in a few weeks. ;D

Maybe we could organise a OzMo house next year if we get enough people who would like to go (just thinking out loud)

 [thumbsup] for the whole experience

Good to meet everyone on Saturday night.

I have never ridden in worse conditions than I did to get to PI on Friday morning.

Mondays ride was also cut a bit short due to crappy weather east of PI.

Despite the weather I had a great time.  [drink] [moto] [drink]
