Title: new halo ring?
Post by: killerpenguin on September 06, 2010, 09:15:05 PM
Alright well I might be getting a 04 m1000 the Guy said it needs a halo ring put in to run. Does this sound like it could be right? That would definitely keep the engine from starting right? Its will turn over but not start. How much would it cost for a new halo ring for this bike if I were to buy it and how much work would it be to change?

I'm going to start with, what the hell is a halo ring?

Antenna maybe?  If so, yes.  Then again, it could be an assortment of expensive stuff, like the computer, dash or both.  Plus a whole bunch of other stuff you wouldn't know about since the bike doesn't run.  Unless the bike is at least a couple of thou below value he would have to fix it before sale.  If not, I would walk.

The seller may be honest, but the bike could be misdiagnosed and there could be problems the seller doesn't know about.

Well I'm trying to get the Nike for 12 or 13 what would you think of that price? He said he had a duck shop look at it and he said the halo ring. As far as I know the halo ring is the piece that reads the chip in the key to allow it to start

you should work for the CIA because your posts are so damn cryptic.

IF the immobilizer antenna is all it needs, then it should be an easy fix. You can probably find one for $20 or so used. But, I would not give one penny for that bike until you can verify that is indeed the problem.

If you are saying the seller wants $12-13 THOUSAND for the bike, he's out of his mind.

Do you live in the states?

An m1000 is worth nowhere near 13 grand in the states... especially one that doesn't run.

Edit: If it's really just $1300 then this is a whole different story.

the immobilizer antenna is a ring that goes on the inside of the cover for the ignition key barrel.

does he have the black and the red keys for it? does anything happen when you turn the key?

even if the bike is $1,300 and not $13,000 I would be very suspicious because the price on a bike like that should probably be about $5,000 and up to maybe $7/8,000 or  (in the US).

I'm thinking there is something not right here and its not just the immobilizer antenna that's wrong with it.

Where are you located?

you should get the antenna or swap covers with the guy that just bought an ignition switch on Ebay
