The above is just some concept some bored industrial designer made. But some how it made me think of the new Ducati model as well as the HD V-Rod. Is this where moto design is headed? Will poser douchiness be expressed not in chrome but in overly full fairing that looks like the Tron bike make the beast with two backsed a Ferrari?
Like it or hate it? Perhaps the concept of a completely wrapped bike isn't so bad. I just haven't see one I like yet.
sac
/probably a derby anyway
Hm... I don't hate it as a thing to put in a room and gawk at while discussing the economy over cocktails with other self-important assholes.
But I do kinda hate it as a motorcycle.
As far as being the future of bike design, I don't think we need to worry.
Reminds me of the one in Akira. It worked there... but then again, that was a cartoon. ;D
I kind of like it
this is not the future of motorcycle design.
feel better?
haven't you heard? that's the new Ducati "Moto Brutto"..
It's actually the past....

Better.
Why the full body cladding? To hide everything beneath it and thus the engineers don't have to worry about what it looks like then. The bean counters rejoice as they then don't have to budget to make the engine, etc look "pretty".
First bike (I remember!) with the "hide everything" mantra was the Bimota db1 -- it's ugly beneath. (but I personally love the exterior) Then the Ducati Paso series with full enveloping bodywork but with Italian style. Then the Japanese went crazy with it starting with the 1987 Honda CBR600 Hurricane series. (Interceptors were beautiful -- the Hurricane was hideous) Ultimate culmination of this was the white color Honda "Pacific Coast" -- and unfortunately others have followed since.
You will see the same in the LEV / electric motorcycle market as well -- hide everything beneath plastic and mimic a kitchen aid appliance. Very few manufacturers are designing in such a way to make their electric platforms look great and like a "motorcycle".
I like the look of the original Tron bike.
if that's the future then that will be the last bike ever created.
Anyone else here watch/read Akira...

One of those classics I've somehow managed to never see.
It's on "the list."

I gotta admit it. I kinda like the on Kopfjäger posted...
It's this thing that has a seat, handlebars and two wheels, that an industrial designer put together.
So it must be a motorcycle.
Haute couture on two wheels.
And it weighs 250 lbs.
I promise.

Or it's a high-end monocoque.
I seem to remember Phil Vincent fully enclosing the Series D in the mid 1950,s It was called Black Prince or Black Knight or something like that.. Fully enclosed bodywork. Ugly as sin but still a Vincent so in reality .......it is still the coolest shit there is.
It could be a lot worse! This could be the future....

It does look like it shares some concept desining with the Ferrari concept bike:

Both sort of make me want to [puke]
these are simply two-wheeled design exercises, people...

No, I don't want change. Bring back the original monster!

I completely agree.
