I need some 5mm rotor spacers for a 5 bolt wheel.  Anyone making these things?

what would you need those for?

I'm in a bit of a snafu...

The forks I have apparently have some funky caliper mounts on them.  The Billet 999 caliper mounts are no longer available....so I would need to purchase new lowers, and have them put on.  Since that is going to cost 450 in parts + 450 in labor, I'm better off using what I've got.  The ones that I have appear to be for a 916-998 offset, as they would use a 10mm offset rotor.  I've got a BST front wheel w/5 bolt rotor fitment (999/848/1098), so I'm stuck.  Either I spend 900 or more to "fix" the forks, or I use a different set of rotors and space them accordingly. 

I won't be able to use the CMC rotors on the monster because of this, but I will save them for my 2v SBK track toy (or sell them and recoup a majority of what I paid for the wheels/rotors).

Mounting a zero offset rotor to the BST, I get a 5mm gap between the hub and the rotor face.

Assuming you have access to a simple CAD program you could have them made for like $40? Go buy some 5mm stock on eBay, find a shop with waterjet machine, add in a little finish polishing and you're ready to go.

Wish that were the case.  Mins around here start at ~150$ and go up.  They would laugh at me to cut out 2 small pieces, not to mention having to buy a sheet....  Hence, the post.


I like your optimism, but I've had no luck finding 5mm aluminum anything all day, unless I buy a sheet from alcoa for $5xx + shipping.

Taft, look on eBay for what they call 'cutoffs' - scrap pieces of Al - these can be had reasonably. Then have a shop with a CNC knock out some parts. It can't be that hard, or expensive, to get done. There is even a member here with a CNC in his garage, whom routinely makes parts for people(look for threads on replacement footpegs for CycleCat rearsets). I forgot his screen name but his avatar is an image of some Simpsons character? I know it's not very helpful but this guy might be able to just produce the parts for you and I don't think he'll charge an arm and a leg either. They are just spacers after all, requiring only a 3 axis machine to produce accurately. McMaster has Al plates, something like this http://www.mcmaster.com/#aluminum/=8ukdrv (http://www.mcmaster.com/#aluminum/=8ukdrv) - 1/4" thickness, execute a code that mills it down .05" then cuts it out and you're done. By the way when's that S4RT going to be finished?

McMaster probably carries it and there's a warehouse with pick-up options right up I-20, alternatively metal supermarkets(which has an office right by the perimeter on I-85 north of Atlanta has 5mm thick plate with no minimum.  Personally I prefer the eBay route.

Both of these places can do it and much more, I have no affiliation with either company but I have done business with both and their service was great.  These places should be no more than an hour or so from you.

Talk with Wallace first, If you can provide the drawings then they can probably provide the metal and the cutting for a decent price.

nothing on ebay at the moment in 5mm.

I'll check with metal supermarkets tomorrow....mcmaster has it but only in a 25mm wide application (which won't work for obvious reasons)  Metal supermarkets website says they have .19" plate, which is pretty close but not quite 5mm.  Not sure if it will matter or not?

You must know someone giving you a hook up....I don't see how a business can set up a machine and cut out 2 pieces/stay in business for $40.   I'll call/try anyway. [thumbsup]

let me explain this by an example , our frame plugs are about 5mm high, did i use 5mm high material ?

Seriously, that is way too much.

I realize you can mill down thicker material....but I don't have the capability to do that myself.

$450 isn't to put the lowers on.... Ohlins says the entire fork must come apart, and the $450 is the labor for the complete rebuild and install.

It's a mute point anyway, the spacers will obviously be less, and the fork can stay together.

$450 is too much period...but like you say it's a moot point.

I would be willing to bet the carrier for the stock set of rotors are about 5mm. If you can get one to measure then you can source a set of junk stock rotors and machine the carrier down to work as your spacer.

We have some 5mm spacers for that purpose. We use one spacer for each bolt. We had to buy more than we needed.
