Im so angry about it. I am always careful but this morning I just wasnt thinking.
I was driving home after a midmorning ride. I live on a dirt road which is really tricky riding on. (yeah,i hate the dirt road but it wont keep me form riding) I was pulling up into my house and into my yard. Unfortunatly, as I was turning into my yard, i had no traction and the bike slipped around and fell on me. [bang]
One broken clutch lever, One loose mirror (i was gonna replace it anyway) and one very sad me. I cant ride!! :'(
I cant ride now untill I get a new clutch lever. Anybody know where I can order one from and if their serivce is good?
I guess Im glad to get the first fall out of the way, it could have been worse..I need to be more careful in future...
Sorry man-we've all been there. Glad you're ok and the bike isn't too badly off.
Just consider it a good lesson learned-you probably won't do it again.
Sorry to hear that, but glad you're OK.
Yeah, thanks guys.
But hey, good news is that I didnt have to push the bike far to my garage. [roll]
Anybody know where I can buy a clutch lever online and have them speed ship it to me?
http://www.ducatiseattle.com/home06/home.htm (http://www.ducatiseattle.com/home06/home.htm)
My first fall I broke my hip, glad it's just a clutch lever. I felt like such an idiot as well, more of like a "pride" thing.
What... no tank dent? ;D
Glad you're ok dude. No worries. We all drop a bike here and there in our riding careers.
I remember when i dropped my 1st. Very very low speed drop. What hurt most then was my pride. Had a sick feeling inside for days after. It passed.
These incidents help make us better riders.

+1... I was sick with regret as well after my first stupid drop...
-I've seen clutch levers on ebay for cheap $$ (around $30), but that's just the lever.. If you bent the piece that connects the lever to the main housing (forget what it's called), it's a much trickier to replace and adjust properly...
-Hey, bruised ego's heal ;)... You'll benefit from this experience, trust me.. Just think about how careful you'll be next time!!
replace broken parts and ride again. [moto]
Glad to hear you are OK.
Some people drop them in their garage...think how stupid they must feel . Is there like 1/2 of the lever left on the bike? I dropped mine and broke the clutch lever and it broke half off but I could still shift until I got it replaced.
Buy a dirtbike. Get used to what the bike feels like when it is "Loose".
Sorry it is going to cost you a few $$$, but those can be replaced.
A dirtbike is the BEST learning tool for a streetbike.
When my bike gets loose I get happy, not panicked.
Also.... a unicycle will teach you the finesse you need to push the limits anywhere. GET one.
Glad YOU are OK.

You should NOT hate the dirt. Be one WITH it.
Yeah dude, I saw a guy parting out a whole bunch of monster stuff on ebay.
No, the lever just snapped off right at the base. Its just the shifter, not the piece that it attaches to. The gear shifter is also bent in a tad bit. I hope thats all the damage. I really dont want to replace the clutch lever and have shifting problems...
I have been riding for just a few months now. and am real comfortable on the roads...but the dirt is just a problem. Dont ride in it I knew I would fall sooner or later. I really do feel sick right now. Mostly cause I wont be riding for a while now. URRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHH.
Thanks, DMF!
Welcome to The Club! [beer]
Dirt is tricky on a streetbike A lot of us started riding with small displacement dirtbikes. I started that way because I was only 14 years old and there were lots of places to ride (overgrown logging roads, mainly). That dirt experience was really valuable when I started riding on the road 2 years later. Besides, dirt riding is fun!
It's getting harder and harder to find places to ride dirtbikes nowadays, though >:(

NO JOKE.
If you think you have any sense of balance because you can stand on one foot or roll on two wheels you are wrong.
I have two Unicycles. They have taught me balance and control like nothing else could.
I bet it would take you a week (or more) to learn how to ride to the end of your driveway, turn around, and go back up.
In panic situations I've hit the brakes on my bike -causing the rear wheel to leave the ground- and then turned and maneuvered around an obstacle -then took an offramp. ALL on the front tire. I couldn't do it without exceptional balance.
If you want to be MUCH safer on the street I recommend:
Dirtbikes.
Unicycles.
Trackdays.
I almost dropped the 1098 loading it on the truck yesterday.
Thankfully some Mongols where there to help.
I would have cried like a lil girl.

+1 I'd like to know where to buy a decently cheap(how expensive can one wheel/chain/post/seat cost?) unicycle.

A buddy of mine in Maryland recommended Unicycles to me. He can wheelie like nobody else I know, slides streetbikes at will like Xaus, etc.
He has Jedi-like powers in crisis situations and amazing eye-hand coordination. One day I told him I wish I had that kind of skill. He said he used to be an uncoordinated geek until he started riding unicycles. He started riding -not for a noble cause- but because his father thought it was stupid and told him to stop. Like any punk kid with an electric guitar would -he took that as a challenge.
I got both mine at Unicycle.com, but there are lots of sources.
I highly recommend their 20" Nimbus as a starter Uni. (actually it is a great one even if you are an advanced rider).
Brian (the buddy in Maryland) has a Torker brand. It is only $104 for the "Torker Unistar LX 20-inch" at Unicycle.com -a good deal!
Wear flat soled shoes like "Vans" or most any skater shoe. Elbow/knee protection is advisable.
Be patient. Think of people who have had to re-learn how to walk and speak after a massive stroke.
You are just like them -learning how to walk just like a two year old.
It's not easy to learn, but once you do it sure does look easy!
Just like walking.
And then other things that weren't easy before "just are". It's cool.
I will get on it! I am looking at eBay right now.. I'll get the 24'' wheel. I am totally into anything that will give me an edge on riding. Better control means better chance for survival on the soccer mom's streets.
I wish I could ride like this guy.. I bet he can jump over a deer too.. LOL..

More than that for me (course it would help if I actually got my unicycle out to practice more often). :-[
i love that video.
Any reputable dealership should have the clutch lever in stock and be able to get it out to you reasonably quickly.
I recommend Advanced Motorsports in TX or Ducati Seattle.
sorry about the mishap,
like you said... it's a good thing you were close to home.
I dropped my bike on saturday, :o so don't feel bad. it happens to all of us.
oh, this is a secret, dont tell snips or bad kitty :-X

how come you didn't mention dropping your bike in your "helmet less in Connecticut" thread (http://ducatimonsterworldwide.org/index.php?topic=4374.0) ???
As long as you're ok, forget the bike.. BELIEVE ME, it can be much much worse.
