I was at the Summit Point track today. Things were going well, though the bike felt a little odd from the beginning of the first session. By the third session it was clear the clutch was slipping like mad when asked to put through more than about half power and no engine braking. The bike has 4,536 miles on it and I am the third owner.
OK, what might be bad in the clutch? Is this DIY? How much both for dealership and DIY?
I am [bang] now. The bike is finally set up well for me, I am getting comfortable at the track with it, and this was going to be my last track day of the year. It is the last one now. [bang]
If the plates are just plain worn out it is the owner's responsibility. If they are worn due to a defect such as weak springs or a defective slipper mechanism it is then warranty so you might want to speak to your dealer first.
I can't say if it is DYI for you, but if the problem is just plates I would call it between a B and C tech level. Watch the order of the plates, stack height, orientation of the pressure plate and don't over tighten the hold down screws for the springs and you should be golden. If you decide to DIY we will explain what all the gibberish means if you don't already know.
