So . . . anyone got ideas, suggestions, etc.
If you're running the stock clutch slave cylinder, the seals probably failed. Do you see any brake fluid underneath the clutch slave?
I bet tis the gear lever return spring... I know, not the technical description... but same thing happened on my 848.

Yup... thats what happened to me... except the spring bits broke gear bits... and well it was a hot mess.
No I'm not stuck in a gear. I can shift in and out of 4th and 5th. There's just nothing else including neutral.

I would still check under the left side cover. You have to start somewhere.
I'd ride or drive back the way you came and see if they are on the road.

+1. mine broke while i was in the middle of swapping flywheels and shifted the bike into neutral. very lucky.
