Title: Tour Texas? Post by: calscrazy on September 24, 2010, 11:24:17 AM Myself and another fine gentlemen around here have been working on some routes around the state. Simply put its a five day, four night, four hundred miles a day tour of texas.
Day one would be to west texas. Day two is to san antonio. Day three is to the gulf. Day four is to east texas. Day five is heading home. How many would be interested in something like that next fall instead of a hc trip? Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: Cher on September 24, 2010, 01:45:54 PM moi ;D Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: GeorgeInDallas on September 26, 2010, 07:44:55 AM Sounds like fun. Have any dates in mind - I'm guessing that part of the ride would be over a weekend? What kinda bikes are y'all riding? Mine's an ST3, so I won't be flogging it (OK, AND I'm 64 in a couple of weeks). :o And I'll need to put new rubber on before we launch.
I betch RickMillerTX would sign up, too. Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: RichD on September 27, 2010, 08:10:43 PM I'm in. 8)
Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: calscrazy on September 28, 2010, 05:36:46 PM hmm! thought more people would be interested in this.
Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: TresGatos on September 28, 2010, 05:44:48 PM Sounds like a great ride for people who can do it [thumbsup]
Beyond my abilities though. Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: muskrat on September 28, 2010, 07:00:59 PM depends on the route. frankly I have NO need to ride to West Texas - 90% of it anyway.
Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: svoloch on September 29, 2010, 01:39:22 AM I'll do it if we wear matching jackets and patches
Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: Cyclone on September 29, 2010, 05:23:26 AM ;D Not that I ever want to be known for agreeing entirely with Muskrat or The Svoloch - but West Tx and Tx Gulf are kind flat and straight ( like my ex-wife, NO fun at all ) AND it all depends on the T-Shirt created for the trip! [bacon] but seriously - I'm interested if I can put that many days together. Seems like Hill Country & E Tx Piney woods could make kinda a nice figure 8 trip of sorts.

Post by: hiero on September 29, 2010, 05:39:52 AM There are sections of the gulf coast that actually aren't too bad. I'd like to hear what kind of route you've got and maybe some of the Houston contingent can join you on parts of it
Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: muskrat on September 29, 2010, 06:10:33 AM I like throwing in East Texas and as for West.......how'bout Alpine, Texas, and South for some Big Bend action?

Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: dallas2r on September 29, 2010, 04:14:14 PM I'm sure you've already worked a few slices of bacon into the grand scheme of things, right? Umm... With the other member of the club being maniacally vegan, I may have to fit that into the design subliminally. Title: Re: Tour Texas? remember this isnt the h/c trip where we go just to ride abunch of twisties. it's a big loop coering different areas. this is the route. we arent doing any figure 8's or crazy shit like that unless you wanna come up with your own. then you can post it up, lead and do the logistics involved. Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: system error on September 30, 2010, 04:53:00 AM Sounds like a great trip but might be hard to take time off. Put me down as interested.

Looks like fun. Both of my parents and their parents, etc. etc., were from Orange and Beaumont. Hadn't been back there in decades... As I recall, you can smell Beaumont before you can see it [laugh] Refineries are everywhere down there. Who cares! Let's GO [moto] Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: muskrat on September 30, 2010, 04:54:54 PM actually that's a nice ride but I might suggest getting on the highlighted red route instead of up 69.

The google route you posted looks like 300 miles per day and that is more in my range for fun. I'm afraid I can't do a 4 day trip this year. I'm already committed to 2 multi-day rides this fall. Sounds like a fun idea you have planned and I'll keep watching this thread. Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: Mhanis on October 04, 2010, 06:32:06 AM What??? No Amarillo??? That route sucks because you are missing all the fine scenery of the pan handle! [laugh] [laugh]

[laugh] [laugh] Funny you mention Amarillo. I was in a gulag in Amarillo from the junior high thru college. Don't care to ever see it again. Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: muskrat on October 04, 2010, 09:26:26 AM there are some nice roads North of Amarillo believe it or not. Dumas, Pampa, Borger and surrounding along with the Canyon aren't that bad but the problem is getting there. [bang]

Excellent use of "gulag". [drink] Well done. Now try "axiomatic" just for fun. Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: Cyclone on October 04, 2010, 07:47:10 PM [roll] It is axiomatic to say that the route has been set, and deviations, serving suggestions, and Texas panhandle plots are unwelcome. Not that I would dare to speak for our own inexorable Calscrazy, I spell too good & I has grammar too. [laugh]
Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: RichD on October 05, 2010, 08:06:17 AM ...I spell too good & I has gots grammar too. Fixed. ("has gots" is the proppah puhzessive form) [thumbsup] Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: Cher on December 28, 2010, 07:32:14 PM resurrecting an old thread here but...Wassup? I've got all this heated gear and shit... NEED TO RIDE [laugh] Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: calscrazy on December 28, 2010, 08:43:48 PM i was thinking either this or annual h/c. h/c is becoming like a religious get-a-way but the koyote is getting old that is the only reason for a feeler.
Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: muskrat on December 28, 2010, 08:51:18 PM Arkansas.........Eureka Springs area?
Title: Re: Tour Texas? Makes sense. Something different sounds good. Arkansas.........Eureka Springs area? Maybe an Arkansas four day weekend in the first half of the year (May or June), then maybe the Tour of Texas ride in it's traditional September time slot? And there's the big ride in the Rockies in August... Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: dallas2r on December 29, 2010, 07:28:29 AM +1 for Arkansas and for changing the HC venue. Not that KR was bad, its just nice to have a change of scenery.
Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: Ronr on December 29, 2010, 08:26:57 AM +1 for Arkansas and for changing the HC venue. Not that KR was bad, its just nice to have a change of scenery. Agreed. I still need to make a moto trip to Arkansas. Eureka is further than I want to go, although I Love the roads in that area. Title: Re: Tour Texas? Post by: muskrat on December 29, 2010, 10:59:23 AM Eureka has the best roads and with very light traffic and very few [leo]
