Title: CHP License Plate Gestapo - Peninsula - 6/8/2008
Post by: desmoquattro on June 08, 2008, 05:56:15 PM
Went for a ride with a couple of friends on Monsters this morning. We headed down to Alice's by way of 280-92-35. At the turnoff from 280 onto 92, there were several CHP cars lined up on the side of the road doing a checkpoint.

They waved Alfonso and I in and gave us a ration of shit about our license plate mounts (we both have tail chops). We got a lecture on how anyone who mounts their license plate that way tends to run from the CHP. The guy harassing me admitted straight out that "you guys can outrun us on these things, so we're out here making sure everyone has license plates mounted where we can see them."

My first thought: "Then why did I even stop when you waved me in?"

We managed to get out of it without fix-it tickets, but it was still annoying. Be careful out there: the peninsula CHP seem to be on the lookout for us bikes lately.

All the harassment lately...  :-\

I wonder how often motorcycles run from cops in that area.

I guess it just takes one Yellow Ducati to mess it up for all of us huh  ???

Who the hell are all of these people that run from the cops?   I honestly dont think I would ever run, even if I had a faster bike.  The 3 people in the last month who have gotten pulled over have had the cop say "you guys run from us" or "I didnt want you to run"   Bullshit!

Maria was gonna head down that way this morning...just told her about this. Said she's glad she didn't.

What the hell? Who pissed in their corn flakes?

and if you mount your plate in the "correct" fashion, you will all of a sudden not try and outrun cops?  or perhaps having your plate mounted correctly will not allow your bike to be fast enough to outrun a cop bike?  ???

Better yet, mounting your license plate "correctly" won't give the cops an excuse to stop you and explain that they can't catch you, thereby making you more likely to run from them next time one of them lights you up without cause  ;D

I don't think they exist. They're a useful myth for the  [leo] to get funding for overtime.

+1 on the 'who the hell runs from the cops.' I never hear/ see that ever being successful. You can't outrun the radio.

Or if you're in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area, you may outrun the first cop, but you have to watch out for his buddy that'll hit you head on!  >:( Yes, it actually happened.

I had a brief acquaintance with a guy who ended up running away from an Oregon St. Trooper, and got away.  I'm not sure how (since I pulled over and took the ticket) but it shocked the hell outta me, and I still wonder why and how people do this.  I'm just too honest or something. ;D

Not sure if you guys have met the guy JJ up at the wall.. his rat bike (i think GSXR) has one of the those flip up plates and he rides around with it turned up so you can't see it.. I'm pretty sure he's a runner.

Must be those guys from BARF that do all the running.

It's just not worth it to run. I mean run from what, A ticket?

JJ's my brother!  [laugh] [laugh] Even if they could see his plate, he knows those roads better than we know our own houses! He can just vanish into thin air up there. I've seen it!!!

I figured you know him :D

I also met the guy who calls himself "Army of One" that does all the weird painting and micro-machine cars... strange dude to say the least. I heard he used to be big into Darth Vader but he's decided to change it up...

Running can't be that uncommon. I've personally heard several people tell stories of doing it.

Lots of people tell stories of doing it. I wonder how many of them are true? Either way, the CHP's interests lie in playing up the story of people running. It gets them more "enforcement" dollars  ;D

And shows like "World's Wildest Police Chases" don't exactly help matters, since they serve to reinforce that notion. Ever notice the date stamp on some of that footage? Seems like they have to go back almost 20 years in some cases to fill time.

I ran once when I was 16 or 17. CR125 over a curb, through a field and down some streets. Cruiser couldn't possible have followed thru the field. Also Ran from private security in the woods. Well It was more of an avoid than a chase. The security guy comes after us in the Bronco, and we just nonchalantly rode over the top of the big pile of dirt that was supposed to be the road obstacle, and continued on our way. Not much of a chase really. Times are different now, I'm not 17 anymore and that was over 20 years ago. Id just pull over..

Running from a cop is stupid.

Running from a rent-a-cop is amusing  [evil]
