Straightforward Question:
I am rebuilding these ISR 6 piston calipers I got awhile back. I'm almost to the point of buttoning everything back up, but I cannot seem to find the torque spec for the "caps" that go over the external pistons. There are three per caliper, on the "external face" of the caliper. A special star-shaped tool is used to loosen or tighten them.
It is similar to the Japanese bikes that have a removable cap on the calipers, such as the Yamaha R6 (couldn't find that torque spec readily either, damn - it surely would have been a fine substitute!)
The calipers have caps as pictured below:

This is the final step in assembling a new front end for my Monster 900. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How would I know - I'm in Norway 8)
If you fail to get good clear answers (language, different torque scale, anything), let me know and I can give it a try.

what's the purpose of the external caps? you mentioned r6 having a similar set-up, and you're right. are they for adjusting the pistons?
No, simply for removing the pistons - the calipers' pistons cannot drop straight out through the middle where the brake pads are.
I got these calipers from an RC30 racebike. Since I didn't know what the seals would look like, I wanted to replace them - got new seals all around, new ... "everything" (waiting on new pistons as the pistons had scoring which i think would hamper retraction, lead to pad drag).
removing the pistons, that's what i thought. well it must be shows on the r6 caliper then, cause i can remove the pistons w/o disassembling.
hell if I know, no experience with those calipers on an R6. I do know that the local yamaha/suckzuki shop looked at me with a blank face when I asked what tool they used to remove those caps when rebuilding calipers. Apparently they don't rebuild them. Ever. (So why does the manufacturer equip those brakes with the removable caps if they are not rebuilt?)

A big +1 on that DP.
Help from what may as well be half way around the planet - and with a smile. [thumbsup]

The caps are there to cover the holes they make when they do the bore for the pistons.
