Hello Guys,
Yesterday after shopping in publix, I crashed at 2 mph my oil filter in the piece of concrete that limits the parking spot. Enough to damage my oil filter. Today i saw the leak in my garage.
How bad It might be? The engine looks in good shape with no scratch.
Im going to tow the bike to Ducati Miami.
Im felling baad!
Why not pick up a new filter and change it?
You'll save a ton of money.

Yeah, but im afraid that i damaged the place that holds the oil filter because I think that the oil filter bended to the right and the leaking is coming from there.
I dont want to come off as rude (I'm just being blunt)
Leaving the filter in isnt going to solve your problem. You're going to have to take the old filter off anyways. might was well take it off now and see what you have to deal with.
Once you know what you're up against post some pics and people might be able to provide more help.
Only one way to find out. Drain the oil, pull the filter. Inspect for stress marks or damage. If none, install new filter. No leak, no problem.
just as a question
IF he did damage the mount, isn't that built into the case?
The filter is really soft, more than likely it took all of the stress and damage.

What is the best oil and viscosity for the Duc 696?

I use olive oil, the italians recommend it.
No, but seriously, a reputable, full synthetic 10w40 with a "4T" rating.
I use Mobil1 4T
if you are in a hot climate, i.e. above 100 frequently, you can use a heavier weight 15w50. Mobil also makes one, called Mobil1 Vtwin.

+1 on the Mobil 4T [thumbsup]
There's also a whole thread about the mysteries of oil, here's just one:

Get some Motul / Mobil / Olive juice, a new filter & washers, and change the oil. I'm sure it's fine.
just removed the oil filter and drained all the oil. The mount for the oil filter looks good... Tomorrow the new filter arrives and I will be installing together with the oil. Sorry for dont have any pics because I made a BIIIG mess. As ducatitech.com video in youtube says : If you dont mess it up you are not doing the correct way hahaha.
Thanks for all the help.
don't worry everyone makes a mess the first time they change the oil on a bike,
the second time you do it you will be amazed at how fast and efficiently you will get it done.
renanmedeiros...I noticed that you said take it to Ducati Miami, which means me and a few other Duc owners are close by, if your intrested PM me and I may be able to swing by and take a look.
Also check out the Local boards and take a peak at the DOCSF.
Just remember not to over-torque the filter. I think general consensus is as much as you can do hand tight plus quarter turn. Some people just do hand tight too.
I use a rubber strap wrench for the extra quarter turn.

changed the oil the other day on my 620 the anecdote of hand tight + 1/4 turn extra worked absolutely perfectly with a ducati oem filter.
no leaking after startup and it really only would turn the extra 1/4 turn with the wrench before it literally stopped.

Yeah, I saw a video in youtube and the guy just give a 1/4 turn. Thanks! today im going to install the oil filter and see if there is any leak. Im not worried because If i damaged the mount that holds the filter I can replace just with another screw.
Thanks!
