There's a bunch of boozers here in CAM, so figured I'd start up a drinking thread.
Also, seemed like a good spot to announce that Shirlington Village is doing their Oktoberfest tomorrow, WHILE I will be out at DucPond. Those bastages!!!
My Goodness, My Guinness!!!
Having a DuckRabbit milk stout myself. [thumbsup]
Churchkey / Birch & Barley in D.C. has 5 cask ales, 50 taps, 500 bottles. Downstairs is (pricey) restaurant, but I think the food is awesome. Upstairs is super-long bar with more reasonable bar menu (burgers, etc.). Same beers on both floors. I'm up for hitting that place any time.
Pizza Paradiso has a great beer selection also (G-Town's selection is better than Dupont, but then you got to be in G-Town, which I dislike) and is the only place to get 3floyds. Also up any time people want to hit.
tonight is a dark and stormy, but the regular is tequila with a squeeze of lime on the rocks.
and when are you coming up sailing btw? season is damn near over.

Sailing? Hell, I've been too busy drinking. Wait, that excuse doesn't work, does it? ;)
I was under the impression that sailing = drinking. ;)
It certainly can. If the wind is up around 20 I need a pair of sober hands to hep out... but no experience required.
at 10 to 15 (typical Chesapeake) I can single hand with several beers and let the guests relax and have the hot bikini-clad crew serve drinks. (it's byob btw... I don't provide the boob).
We went out in 20-30 kts last week. the rule is when the boat hits 15 knots we put the drinks down and pay attention.
we don't realy do the whole booze-cruise thing unless we're anchored for the night. But we do have fun.
but back to topic:
on the boat while moving it's usually a light beer. While anchored it's tequila.
when it's cold on the deck with leaves falling it's a porter. or a Manhattan and a cigar.
I've got several bottles of French red that go quite nicely with a cigar.
Hell, I would have cracked one open already if I didn't have to get up early tomorrow.
You riding Regina's ride tomorrow or leaving earlier?
Roger is driving me out there in the morning, but I am riding the shotgun back. We're leaving my place some time around 0730, so we can get out there and get some MV time in. [evil]

Haven't been there is a bit, but I do like their food. They don't actually have a great "on tap" selection. Usually just 3, but they do have a lot of bottles. To be honest I'm more of a British ales kinda guy and their specialty is Belgian.
Hell - I didn't even think of the (not anymore) new bier garden in NE. Anybody been there?

That might be a good DC meet locale, except last I was there (Nerd Nite at RnR when the topic was beer) the streets were still under construction for the trolley lines.

Mmmm:
"Our vintage-dated, Belgian-style specialty ale, offered in corked 25.4 oz. bottles, is a sensation in subtlety. Heady with a aromatic fruity start and taste, this amber ale features hints of pear and apricot in its well-nuanced flavor. The initial impression of fruitiness concludes in a refreshing dryness that begs you to sip again. Be fore- warned, this ale is immense as it registers 12% abv."
Man sized eh? I've got some Brew-Dog that is over 18% in the fridge.
Beer, not barley wine!

Besides, I'd be willing to bet the Scots know a bit more about it than any of us.
It's not in my glass yet, as I haven't left work yet, but I have a bottle of Taylor-Fladgate 20 year Port at the house. Along with a couple Ashton maduros. Should go well with/after the 1lb dry aged ribeye sitting in my fridge. Yum.

A glass of Aberlour with a tasty Por Larranaga cigar. Paired perfectly with all the bs being flung while sitting in front of the fire. Oh yea, the rest of the Sam Adams Cream Stouts and a few Winter Lagers thrown in for good measure. Had a sip of an Anejo Rum......its the debil.

I've been drinking some good ones lately...
Heavy Seas Red Sky At Night - Supposed to be Saison style, but its more like a Belgian Strong Ale. Good stuff.
Dogfish Head My Antonia - A wonderful and refeshing Pilsner style brew. I wish they would put in 4 or 6 pack form. I have only found 750 ml Bombers.
New Belgian Fat Tire Amber Ale - A new import to the area. Not bad. The novelty will probably wear off soon and i'll be back to drinking Bass when i have a pale ale craving.
Last night - Finished of my Sixer of Sierra Nevada Tumbler Brown Ale. It's no Dogfish Head. DFH Indian Brown Ale is still the gold standard for this style.
Had a bottle of Turley 2001 Old Vines Zinfandel tonight. Pretty tasty, as Turleys tend to be.

That looks like an Acme Portable Hole in a glass!
I don't believe it is that dark...I think you need to put a serious flash light behind the glass to prove it!
Or a "Laser".

When I was at the British GP last year the Pimms booths were everywhere. I had no idea how popular it was in Blighty.
Jim, you better come back wearing a tweed coat!
Took the wife out to dinner yesterday and enjoyed some (actually the whole bottle [cheeky] [laugh]) of this

Arucola on Conn. (reservations recommended!)
On a side note, my wife's state of drunkenness made the 15-min walk home pretty entertaining... "I'm drunk, hold me!" [laugh]
Last time I went to Arucola it pissed me off. All the waiters looked like freakin models and after a bottle of wine, the wife couldn't stop checking them out! Really good food!

16 year old single malt for me.
How's the I IPA?
It's pretty good - a little strong for me. The Oliver's Best Bitter I had on cask last night was aces. Tomorrow I'll finally try the 3floyds Amon Amarth I've had for about a year.
Johnny Walker Black on ice for me

their Trois Pistoles is AWESOME!!!
Had a couple pints of Hopsecutioner at the Irish Joint in Great Falls VA. The Awesome!
I am not a fan of the American trend of over hopped beers. Tossing a ton of hops in stuff is the easy way out and they all taste the same >:( At least the are now calling some of the crud 'American IPAs' vice real IPA - if you can manage to run some down (I've found it at Trader Joes) Sam Smiths India Ale is how it should be done.
And off my soap box...
Can never go wrong with one of these!

Thats great, but, I likes my crud Hoppy!
Hopsecutioner was interestingly balanced with a mellow finish.
I agree with Ian to a degree because there is a balance and most brewers have trended to not understand that and just load up with hops to the point of killing your pallette...
I stopped drinking beer for a while prior to the current micro/craft brew explosion. Frankly I grew bored and moved on to single malts and all they had to offer. Love the diversity!
Cant remember how long its been since Ive had a Sam Smiths......The Pale Ale was my go to event/celebration beer. Now, Ill take a Big Eye IPA or even a Hopsecutioner over one. Bass Ale, same thing........been there done that. Not disparaging them in any way, they are great beers but my pallate craves adventure.

Fullers Bengal Lancer - very nice properly done IPA. Not this over hopped to death that's the rage recently
That Shiner Wild Hare is a good light beer for super hit days. The Oyster Stout - bleech. I forced down half of one.
Tried the Smuttynose IPA last night - kinda boring.
On the other hand the 21st Amendment Bitter American is awesome. And it's only 4.4% so you can have a couple and still make it to work the next day. Plus there's a monkey in a space-suit on the can!
