Title: Headlight Bulb
Post by: psycledelic on October 03, 2010, 08:13:54 PM
Well, thanks to a burnt out bulb on my Monster, I was forced to ride home from work in the dark (about 4:30am) yesterday morning.  Not recommended!

Anyway, I am shopping for a new bulb and had a couple of questions:

1) Are there any aftermarket bulbs that perform better than OEM bulbs without screwing with my electronics?  I already have one electrical nightmare on my SBK.  I don't need another.

2) Are the bulbs bike specific, or for more general use?  (I have an 06 S2R800, not sure about compatibility).

Thanks in advance.

Silverstar H4 is one.

Our OEM bulbs on the S2R bikes is an H4 55/60 watt.  I have been told not to go any higher in wattage by a few sources now for the risk of melting wiring.  I believe kopfjager's Silverstar suggestion has proven to have the best light output.  Good luck.

Another vote for the Silverstar here.

And just out of curiosity, I assume you tried the highbeam?

Both filaments burnt out at the same time?

^^ +1 to trying hi beam...  odd that they would both burn out at same time...

I put one of those super high output bulbs in the bike and kept burning them out. Put a silverstar in it and had the same bulb for about 3 years now. And really bright!

The Silverstar will give you great service.  If you want alternatives to experiment with, try the GE Nighhawk, which is also available in H4 and has some good reviews.

I swapped out the Silverstar for a Hella Yellow Star H4 and I'm happy with the distinctive (but not DoT legal) yellow light.

Great call on the Silverstar.  Brighter then the old light, better peripheral vision, and about the same price.  Considering most of my riding is in the dark, I wish I would have converted earlier.  Thx for the help!
