Well I picked up a Sato rearset for my M1100.  The reason for the choice was that they were highly adjustable and I liked the looks.  I installed them myself last week.  The installation process was longer that I expected, about three hours, but no step was very difficult.  Besides the occasional trip to the hardware store, the main reason it took so long was that I assembled the parts on the bike loosely to test fit and then had to remove them all to apply the locktite before torquing everything down.  So it was almost like installing the set twice.  I did encounter two issues while installing the rearsets:

• One of the holes in the left rearset that is used for the bolt securing the rearset to the engine case did not align properly.  It was off my less than one mm.  I fixed this by filing the hole slightly larger.
• The spring and plastic ring for the brake master cylinder that came with the Sato set was useless.  I tried for a while to figure out how to put them on the master cylinder so that they would not come off and pretty much failed.  Instead I just made use of the rubber diaphragm that was used with the stock controls.  This looks and functions a hell of a lot better than that horrible flimsy spring

As for a review of the rearsets, after riding around with them for a week, I give them two thumbs up.  They looks great, have a ridiculous amount of adjustability, and are very smooth while riding.  Definitely a nice alternative to the Rizoma, which I think cost $150 more.  Sorry for the poor quality pictures, my camera is broken and I had to use my phone.

wow, boomtubes with those REALLY opens up the rear.

  Those boomtubes are cool! I never liked them, but they look good on the 1100 monsters.

 I also have the Sato rear sets on my 696, I had no issues with any holes being misaligned, I do agree that the master cylinder boot kit is a little cheap-o compared to the stock Brembo stuff tho. I think the quality and finish is very good, mine have about 2500 miles on them and the anodize finish is still looking very good with no problems.

Is it possible to adjust the Sato's lower then stock ? I'm looking for some more leg room.

Did you use the Sato master cylinder boot kit or the stock Brembo?

 


 I did not measure, just eyeballed and i can say maybe 1/2" lower, 1" forward when using the lowest holes.
 Like most rear sets, they are a track feature with all the adjustment to the rear and up.
 I also wanted more leg room, I'm 6'2", I had 2" of padding added to the seat, which also leveled out the sharp rake forward.


 

 I tried to make the stock boot fit, I can't remember why it did not work? I don't like the fact that the bottom of the master cylinder is wide open to the elements.

That's odd, I got the stock to work right away.  I could not get the boot provided by Sato to work at all. 

Sato rearsets aren't very typical - not offering rearsetting compared to stock (unless you also go up a lot)
My guess is they are made for the Japanese market = shorter riders?
