Title: V-5 motors...
Post by: zarn02 on October 06, 2010, 04:08:12 PM
So despite scouring the internet for a good picture, or a solid explanation, I don't get it.

Say the RC211V... how does the V-5 motor work?

I've heard (some) V-5s referred to as "staggered bank" motors, and I don't know what that means, either.

Edit: A trip to Wikipedia's entry on the VR6 motor made me less dumb about staggered banks...

Can someone please make me less dumb (at least with regards to this)?

Your internetting is better than my internetting. :P

So how does one balance that? Weights on the crank?

And yes... I'm fully aware that I'm only several years behind the curve in asking these questions...

Without crunching any numbers, I'd say they can balance it about as well as a V-6.

In any case, it'd be done with the crank counterweights.
