Title: Las Vegas show/activity recommendations
Post by: r_ciao on October 08, 2010, 11:00:01 AM
i'm going to Vegas soon for work. no, really. ;)

am thinking that taking in a show will be cheaper than gambling.  anyone have FHE with Cirque du Soleil's Beatles show (Elvis isn't playing on the nights i'm there.)  or recommendations for another show/activity please.

Ciao!

Santana was playing the Hard Rock, but looks like he's not gonna be back around until 2011

rent a car & go out to Hoover Dam, get there early & do the hard-hat tour.  (fills up, line gets longer as day goes on)

Olympic Gardens...

Beatles!!!!

I have seen other Cirque du Soleil's  and so far this is the best ;D
So ditto to sacduc...oh, I am his wife  [cheeky]

Hoover Dam is cool....a one time good to check out.

I am totally jaded because I go once week a month for business for several years and it's not a big deal and well it"s work and I don"t gamble and like being home and by the ocean?

Have fun  :)

Where are you staying? Walk around it is amazing to watch people. Are you at a convention or meetings or meeting a specific client. Usually locals can make great recommendations.

You can find great restaurants what type of food are you interested in? Where are you staying and where have you stayed? I actually don't stay on the strip anymore for the most part but I have and do sometimes.

Hookers, just make sure she doesn't give the best $500 hand job in town.

I saw "O" a few years back and it was really good. Its the one with the water. The floor moves up and down so you never know if its 3" deep or 12'.

The Amazing Jonathan.

Don't walk from the new strip to the old strip, or vice-versa, alone, and drunk at 4 AM.

Blue Man Group was very enjoyable when the Wife and I were there in 08.
"O" was also impressive. We also enjoyed the Penn and Teller Show.

I'm staying at Mandalay Bay and am there for work and a business conference.  I will have a car too since I have to visit a customer in between the conference meetings and receptions.  Thanks all for the tips.  I'll have to research Hoover Dam and the Valley of Fire.  I think I have my entertainment choices narrowed down to Cirque's Beattles or Blue Man Group.  (Zumanity might be better if I had an attractive companion with me, but I might be flying solo for the show.) Now I just have a find a good deal.

BTW, I have seen Cirque's Mystere and "O" and those are awesome!  FWIW, I saw Mystere first and thought it was better than "O".

seen O and Zumanity..and just saw Ovo here in DC...

another thing worth doing is just going around to the different hoels and checking out the theming and architecture...they have done some incredible things...and FWIW...just going inside the Venetian and hanging around their town square inside...there seems to be always something entertainment wise going on and at no charge...

you can also go to Pat Clark Motorsports in town and drool over some Ducs and Bimota's and nice gear while there...their showroom was a pristine showcase...

Really?  If I wanted to watch fat midwesterners waddle around and ooh and aah at crappy monstrosities they think are incredible I could go to the Old Country Buffet in Des Moines for much less money.

Based on the Bad Old Days, I bet Blue Man Group would be a friggin' hoot on a bag full of shrooms.  [evil]

Don't walk from the new strip to the old strip, or vice-versa, alone, and drunk at 4 AM. EVER!

Fixed.

I always enjoy a little gambling when in Vegas (if you win, it is much cheaper than a show).   [thumbsup]

Checked out the beautiful Italian artwork:  Ducati, MV, Aprilia and a Bimoto.  If anyone wants a 2009 1198, they are deeply discounted right now.
