It seemed right to start a new thread for this season. I know most people don't care until January, but for those of us who follow this like a religion, the puck has dropped and this shit is real.
I very much enjoyed the Red Wings starting the season by shutting out the anaheim poultry 4-0. Howard starts the season with a recorded shut-out, which can only help the kid's confidence. The ducks played like the ducks, but fortunately the wings played like the wings. Pavel Datsyuk got his first Gordie Howe Hat Trick, which is kind of funny. It was a rad game.
You forgot to mention Modano getting his first goal as a Wing on his first shot. [thumbsup]
Which gave the top 3 lines each one goal. [thumbsup]
Good win for the Wings tonight against Chicago.
Sorry to spoil the banner raising ceremony there, but the 'Hawks are 0-1-1 to start the year.
Devils got spanked bad tonight as well.
My highlight of the year is below -
Corey Perry vs Pavel Datsyuk Oct 8, 2010 - Detroit feed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gR_0F92MK0#normal)
Pavel Datsyuk isn't the biggest guy in the league but anyone who's seen the way he controls the puck should know just how strong he is. That was classic.
I'm really happy that Osgood started off the season with a win. He needed it after last year.

Saw that too.

Bought tix to the Avalanche/Wings game 1/10/11. Will be 14 rows up behind the Detroit bench. & I'll be there w/my Wings jersey on! [thumbsup]

By 'tix' you mean one for you and one for me?
It's red wing nation on the board!
I'm heading up to the NYE game against the Islanders, as well as the St. Pats day game in Columbus. I usually go see the Lake Erie Monsters when they take on the Grand Rapids Griffins (Detroit's AHL team). Although rooting for the Monsters should be a given for members of this board, I can't not love the team where Helm, Howard and Abdelkader played so very recently.
As far as non-Red Wing hockey, is anyone else watching Tampa Bay this year? I think they're going to do big things in the leastern conference. Picking up Ritola on waivers was a good move for Yzerman.
Picking up Ritola was definitely a great move by Stevie Y, much to my dismay.
They'll probably improve this year vs. last, and will be a much better team in the years to come.
Although I would love to see Steve Y still in Hockeytown, mad props to him for learning from what is arguably the best organization in the league and taking an opportunity that few would have a chance of ever being offered.
I have a feeling he'll go to FLA, learn how to GM in the NHL and then come back home to Detroit. He's practically an adopted Illitch anyway. I doubt he has to pay for Little Caesar's pizza even.
I'm seriously more stoked for this year's roster than I have been since 2002. If Osgood plays like he did yesterday instead of like he played last year...
but fellow wings fans, if you've never checked out Kuklaskorner.com, there's a blog over there called Abel to Yzerman that's really fun. You might need the glossary at first with the references to "willy wonka strangling a hooker" and such, but it's worth the time.

I agree, although the '02 squad was an All-Star team of sorts.
Howard looked great on Friday night, Ozzie was solid last night. The youngsters are good, the tweeners (Cleary, Datsyuk, Kronwall, Zetterberg, et al) play with the team mindset and have some mad skills to boot, the veterans still have a few years left. Should be a good year. [thumbsup]

Nope. By 'tix' (in the plural) I mean one for me and one for someone who's not you. ;D
Dunno if any of you caught the Atlanta - Caps season opener. Pavelec passed out about 2 min in. Pretty weird and disturbing - play was at the Caps end of the ice and he just buckled and went over backwards. All the med staff rushed out, and there was no sing of motion even as they got him off the ice. Got released from the hospital Sunday and is on IR with a concussion, but they are not sure why he collapsed in the first place...
Here's a decent entry on Pavelec. He passed out. They don't know why. When he did, he faceplanted and got the concussion.

Fack!
Wings haven't looked good the last couple games. :-\
Down 4-0 to Dallas right now.
Injuries are starting to pile up already as well. [bang]
I swear Dallas sent some classy, high priced call girls to the wings hotel this afternoon. They weren't there at all. It was awful. I've never seen Lidstrom play so shit.
The Detroit Red Wings and Societa Scientifica Radio Brevetti Ducati were both founded in 1926. This is irrelevant trivia, but no one other than the goons reading this thread might care.
And then Rick Rypien goes after a fan in the stands!

Some are calling for a 20+ game suspension, which I think is crazy.
Osgood becomes the 10th goaltender in NHL history with 400 wins. [thumbsup]
Achieving this in overtime against the Avalanche... [thumbsup] [thumbsup]
I hope you guys got to catch 24/7 on HBO. The Pens/Caps leading up to The Winter Classic.
looking forward to the rain delays for the NHL's big event this weekend. Gawd do I hate the NHL hype machine.
