Title: Showa vs Marzocchi: Teach me please Post by: jvax on October 09, 2010, 04:33:56 PM The same day I got my new M796 I find out that next year's model will have a Marzocchi front fork instead of the Showa.
I'd appreciate if someone could enlighten me as to what the difference between the two is. Title: Re: Showa vs Marzocchi: Teach me please Post by: Moronic on October 10, 2010, 12:08:06 AM Yours is made by a Japanese company, Marzocchi is based in Italy.
Apart from that, I doubt anybody knows at this point. Both companies can make superb suspension - with Showa possibly having an edge from their MotoGP work. Both also make cheap junk. So it is really a matter of what Ducati has ordered for the model. Title: Re: Showa vs Marzocchi: Teach me please Post by: Howie on October 10, 2010, 03:57:32 AM Marzzochi forks were used on some of the monsters in the past. The forks were fine from a quality standpoint. The problem was all you could reasonably change on them was springs and weight oil because the cartridges were swedged in. Same on the new ones? Dunno.

Sorry, do you mean to tell me the Showas on the monster, one can't change the valving stack up etc? Or did you refer o the old Marczochis? Thanks. The Marzocchis...There are some companies that make complete innards for them, but the cost is much higher than gold valves for the Showas.Title: Re: Showa vs Marzocchi: Teach me please Post by: Howie on October 10, 2010, 01:48:58 PM Sorry, do you mean to tell me the Showas on the monster, one can't change the valving stack up etc? Yes...From my experience the stack recommended by them is pretty harsh for 'real world' roads. If you have a suspension guy in your area don't be surprised if he recommends a different stack. Title: Re: Showa vs Marzocchi: Teach me please Post by: brad black on October 11, 2010, 02:03:27 AM the 40mm marzocchi used in 600 and 750 ss and monster models up to '99 or so were the ones without removable cartridges. later marzocchi i've seen or had apart have cartridges afaicr.
