I have always wanted to test one - one thing is for sure, it is no Ducati!
I'll be honest though, I really like the bike. The looks are great!
Details:
-very smooth engine and ride
-easy clutch - if you are on flat road, the bike moves off without throttle
-you really have to lean into the corner with the wide rear tire
-not crazy about the turn signals
-very quiet stock exhaust - needs some aftermarket for sure
Overall, I would get one if I had room in the stable. There is a lot of power (not nearly as torquey as my Ducati), I like the riding position, and I love the look of it.
Enjoy..
I think the only thing I enjoy about that bike though is this ad. [thumbsup]

The thing I like most a bout the V Rod is it crushes the Suzuki on a regular basis. [evil]

Love the V-Rod Muscle...looks awesome!! Have test rode it twice so far. I did not seem to have the problem turning like you apparatently. Seeemed to handle well - turning from a turn lane into the inside lane while going slow. Loved hitting 120 on the bridge over Joe Pool Lake. [moto]
What was the sticker price ?
Dolph :)

They have come down in price in the last 5 years - they were ~$23000
now $18000 before taxes (Canadian $$)
I rode one about three weeks ago and was impressed as well, of course I'm a little partial because I own and Electra Glide but who cares right? For my money I'd buy an 05 or so Screaming Eagle - neighbor has one and I flogged it......damn it can run.
It comes in a dark....I'm sold

Find yourself a nice '06-'07 Street Rod (VRSCR). It's the one that handles (also the one H-D failed to market successfully).

Local dealer has that. It is beautiful in person. I got to spend a couple hours on a V-Rod a couple years ago. Wasn't a dealer test ride, so I got to really check it out. Great bike, and if I had a spare $18k laying around just looking to be spend on a motorcycle, I just might buy one ~
JM
It hasn't been that long ago that I had a Heritage Softail Classic.
I still have 4 H-D leather Jackets, plus - 100th Anniversary leather H-D Jacket, satin lined Chaps, leather Vest, leather Skull Cap, leather long gauntlet Gloves, and leather Winter Gloves.
I'd be all set to ride that black V-Rod.
I don't know that I could go back to riding a Harley ..........might screw up my super bike skills [evil]

I think thats only because they changed all the rules to favor the Harley and penalise the faster Suzuki's
But hey, the powers that be did the same to help hardly davidson compete and sell bikes back in the 70's with the import tariffs on imports over 700cc [thumbsdown] FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF Hardly Davidson!
Long live the king of speed the Suzuki Hayabusa [moto] [clap]
Meh. They made them add 120 lbs and they and the Buell still crushed their souls. You can't keep V Twin torque down. 300+ HP Twins at that. [evil] make the beast with two backs Suzuki.
Turbo Busa's making 700+ hp and ridden on the street. 300 Hp on a pump gas, daily driver turbo Busa is common.
Turbo Busa @ 272 mph in the standing mile. Lets see the harley stay together for that mile let alone do it over and over again ;D
Turbo Busa [thumbsup]
Tell em to bring to the NHRA and see if it passes inspection. If it would they would be running the #1 plate.
Oh. Can't run turbo engines in Pro Stock.
Or Hector's Buell.

Slap on a "good" 2:1 pipe and a better flowing air cleaner/filter/intake jobby with a "good tune" which can almost never be gotten by a Harley dealer or independent Harley mechanic and it REALLY livens up the torque curve...
I'm not really up on v-rod tuning but the rest of the product line comes with some pretty horrific tuning from the factory.

as do our Ducs [evil] I think it's collusion between Ducati and Termi.

+1
Factory tune is terribly lean. Horrendously lean. Once I put on my V&H pipe, lost the airbox lid, slapped in a high-flow air filter, and added a PC3 all was well. The pipe knocked 40 pounds off the bike, and it puts down 120 HP at the wheel now.
Yesterday, I decided to take all the (running) bikes in the garage for a spin. One right after the other, on the same 10 mile route.......
First was the wife's '05 Heritage Soft tail - Easy chair riding position, Lots of noise, terrible brakes, mild acceleration
Next was my '06 V-Rod VRSC-D (mid controls) - Bars immediately felt narrow and bike felt small! Much faster and good brakes - better handling
Next was the '98 M900 - clip ons - "falls" into turns - a bit soft on acceleration compared to the V-rod
Finally, '01 M900Sie - also clip ons and with 15 -43 gearing - less nervous front end and great punch with the gearing - I can't think of a better Monster for me
