Title: Suggestions on a replacement clutch?
Post by: BlackKat on October 10, 2010, 03:01:22 PM
Welp, I think its that time. Having clocked about 300 miles this weekend, I noticed that towards the end, she was slipping a bit under heavy acceleration and an unusual bit of noise was coming from that region. I realize my 99 750 will never actually be fast, but maybe a little snappier grab to the clutch would make me feel better about it  ;D

Can anyone suggest a good performance oriented wet clutch replacement for my 750?

I figure, better grab from the clutch, better handling, lighter weight (on both the bike and me!) sprung and unsprung and those carbs tuned as good as possible and that 57 BHP might be tolerated!

Cheers!

I've gone through a couple sets of Barnett plates over the years and been happy so far.

It seems that Barnett is the only readily available option unless I want to put in a slipper clutch ( what is that btw?) at 4-5 times the price. Are there others out there other than stock?

Other question, for a wet clutch as mine is, is there a reason to update to a billet basket? I've been a car guy for years and I understand the lighter flywheels etc..

Cheers!

the lighter the better

barnetts are fair - there are good and bad experiences all over the internet. on the plus side, they are cheap. really cheap

How many miles on your 750?

I'd recommend OEM plates.

I'm at about 15k...but in my defense...the previous owner was a D-BAG with no interest in taking care of the bike...I swear when I flushed the brake fluid, there was rocks and sticks in the old dried up stuff...also, at 13K when I bought it, I am pretty sure the oil was original. JACKASS!

+1.

You should get another 15k or more out of the stock style clutch pack

15k? Scuff those frictions and keep running 'em.
Not likely they're worn out, just glazed.
