Title: Ozmonster Ducati brainstrust question
Post by: Two dogs on October 13, 2010, 07:08:02 PM
Okay so the missus (Luba) has got confident enough to supersize her motorcycle.
We were first looking at the Suzuki SV 650 seems a good allrounder good engine V twin cheapish but the S model with clip ons was to much or a reach so it would be the base model naked with monster type bars.
Only one we have seen is asking too much for the K's .
So we were out at Parramatta and she gets to sit on a Monster  (ouch my wallet is starting to hurt) and she likey very much.
So the question I have for the brainstrust is which is the best option pro's and cons
620ie

600

or 400 ? both are carby I think

I don't want to pay big bucks and found a 2002  for $7 900 out at Parra  has 25 k on the clock
checked the service book and Frazers did the 20k so I assume belts are done
pros : Black with high mount Termis
pretty much standard tyres okay needs a spit n polish.
con: no baffles (to noisy for her) don't think it has a red key

Sooo does this sound a good price or should we keep looking for something older and cheaper.
Oh and she would like to join in with the Ozmonster rides if she gets one if there is enough room for another girl Suz and Jukie.

On another topic found a  [drool] 900 Cromo Monster for sale out west oh wow $9999 low Kays import hmmm nice trophy ride for weekends [thumbsup] dealer recons its the only one in Oz probably BS

For sub 10k - How bout a 08 or 09 Street Triple?

Title: Re: Ozmonster Ducati brainstrust question
Post by: Stinky Wizzleteats on October 13, 2010, 09:20:36 PM
Prolly a little too much power on a Street Triple.  [thumbsdown]

Being the same (detuned) motor as the Daytona 675

 ???

And where do I find these sub 10k Street Triples you speak of?

I'd go the Chromo.  ;D  or the 620.

Dez.. best bet is to look for a NON LAMS 620.

People go after monsters in this range because they're on the LAMs list, so finding one that can't be LAMs registered means you should get a good price.

Street Triple is a great option .. but I would have thought out of the sub 10K range.

Maybe try looking for 620s out of QLD?

Dez,
I have a simple solution here, am suprised it hasn't crossed your mind yet. Remember that Streetfighter you test rode a while back............ [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [thumbsup]........firstly, give your wife your Monster on permanent loan......then you invest in the Streetfighter and share the repayment (if needed). I did similar many years back, i bought my then future wife an MGB to learn on, has been a talking point ever since though. Work on it Dez, you can do it.....!!!    [evil]

as soon as i read it i thought the same as Brian

wtf are you thinking about ?? buy yourself a new bike  [laugh]

benefits you know the history of your current bike  [thumbsup]

personally i wouldnt touch a 400 , they are all imports of unknown history and just a sleeved down 600 , resale will be hard

look on ebay , plenty of monsters pop up 5-6K

this one didnt sell 750 $5K although got a few kays up which is a good negotiation
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2000-DUCATI-750-MONSTER-/180569238083?pt=AU_Motorcycles&hash=item2a0ac3ea43 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2000-DUCATI-750-MONSTER-/180569238083?pt=AU_Motorcycles&hash=item2a0ac3ea43)

buy a cheap one, put it through major service and say ouch but then have a known base to start with

Looking for a LAMS bike the are still going for 10k or more.
I'd be going with option two presented and pick yourself up a new toy
pass on your already prettied bike and start again.

Have you seen the S4Rs offered in the trading post thread. Cheap for lots a HP!

buy the S4RS, you wont be disappointing and knowing that, your wife will be all the more happier as well :)

I'd put forward the SF or Diavel as an ambit claim and then offer the cheaper alternative of an S4Rs as a solution to the deadlock in negotiations. All the power you will ever need for the road and then some at bargain prices I reckon.

Title: Re: Ozmonster Ducati brainstrust question
Post by: Two dogs on October 15, 2010, 04:29:18 PM
So the slow worm missed the bird [thumbsdown]
620ie was sold before I got to even make an offer. 400 as a grey import was never in contention
and the 620 carbie models for sale at the moment are all asking too much.
As my bike has been raised  Luba feels it is too big for her so Im still on the hunt for a cheap 620ie. non LAMS
The StreetfighterS 2011 Black/red frame probably will be six months away at least ,I like the same colour combo on the 1098 but they are all in the 28k neigbourhood second hand and would not be a good commuter , so looks like I will be window shopping for a while either for her ,original plan or for me ,which would mean working on mine to get the hight down etc. for Luba.

Commence negotiations and lower your bike for the GLW. Even the longer stroke S4R would be an outrageous street bike with a few mods taking it to 120hp and prodigious grunt. I reckon they would be a bargain bike.

the S4R IS an awesome street bike! yes, the testastretta makes a few more horses, maybe 15? and it is smoother than the desmoquattro but it's a naked bike after all and there's no way you will top out the engine in either bike, i have one and have ridden the testa and back to back they're different, but the S4R isn't really lacking anything by comparison, except maybe the brakes but a set of 999 calipers fixes that!

paul.

i say give luba your 695, lowered, and buy a S4R or S4R Testastretta and prepare to scare yourself!

Bike too tall you say Dez.....??     just deflate the tyres, then put Luba on it but in high heels......problem solved...Frasers are closed on Sundays so clinching the deal will have to be delayed till monday, i am working just around the corner, that makes me free to tag along on the test ride. I will bring my riding gear, all you need is your credit card......... ;D ;D

Title: Re: Ozmonster Ducati brainstrust question
Post by: mattyvas on October 16, 2010, 12:13:32 PM
Frasers are open Sunday. 10 or 11 till 3pm.
Unwrap the CC Dez and rock on down.

But I'd be looking at that black S4Rs for half the $$$ and then spending the rest on
Bling and pretty bits.

Hey Dez if the Luba reads this thread your going to end up with the rough end of a pineapple in a place were the sun don't shine [laugh]
A quick google and realy (Luba love)

And as the others said give the 695 to Luba. just lower it
And you know the bike inside out.
Yeah street fighters are nice and made to suck you in, big bucks :o i can't see you riding one to work around the bends just too hard on the back wheel.
that black s2r up the coast looks like it's sold.
there will be more, and the s4r at desmo clinic sounds good :-\

Dez...........Majority rules......the 695 is Luba's...........problem No 1 solved......
Next comes you......enough is enough.......Friday is the deadline, make a decision by then or the hat will be passed around in here , proceeds will be enough to buy you a fire engine red postie bike......

Ahh come on guys why don't all of you have a dig come on I dare you come on Im waiting........bring it [laugh]

Now the new bike is not a done deal yet lots of things to ponder and negotiate , I sometimes wonder
why I am even looking at more ponies as my bike actually goes really well, maybe lots less torque but it is
still very quick . Yesterday I had a HM1100 give me a challenge at the lights and to both our surprise I thrashed him.
True!!
Maybe the big rear sprocket helped ;D and I kept the front wheel on the tar.

The only thing really pushing me now is the Missus , after her first ride on a Monster she is hooked.

It's okay six95.  I've just conducted an extremely scientific survey of all female monster riders (okay, I tallied up the numbers for each bike from the monster women roll call thread).

You're actually most likely to be female if you ride a 696 (21 ppl), followed up by a 620 (19 ppl).

There's then an enormous drop to M900 (7), then 695, S2R 800, and S4R, all on 6.

So the take home message from that is you're just as likely to be female riding an S4R as a 695.

Hope that clears things up.
