Title: Fender and timing belt cover facelift Post by: speedknot on October 14, 2010, 06:49:32 AM I finished the fender chop and painted it Duplicolor Universal Flat Black. I was very happy with the finish so I also painted my timing belt covers the same color. I couldn't put the old bolts back in the covers so I replaced them with shiny new stainless ones. The Duplicolor Flat is a great "black" to match some of the other flat black parts on these bikes. The finish has a bit of a sheen to it like the OEM black(dark).

you might want to take the fender clamps and paint them as well. I always hated the way the white sticks out like that. Title: Re: Fender and timing belt cover facelift Post by: The ModFather on August 23, 2011, 12:11:36 PM I like that finish, where do you get Duplicolor Paint?
Title: Re: Fender and timing belt cover facelift Post by: speedknot on August 23, 2011, 12:31:42 PM You can get it at Advance Auto and Pepboys. I would imagine that you would be able to get it at most major auto parts stores. Good luck.

Title: Re: Fender and timing belt cover facelift Post by: speedknot on August 23, 2011, 06:46:26 PM I measured where I wanted the front and rear of the fender to be. I think I cut off about 4" off the front and 3" off the back. Then I made a straight cut across with a Dremel trio. I then took the cut piece, which has the original radius of the front/rear of the fender, and transferred it to the cut portion of the fender itself. After transferring the radius I made the radius cut with the Trio and finished the edge with fine grit 4" grinder and then by hand.
I didn't use a clearcoat for fear that it might alter the flat finish that the Flat Black left. When I hit it with a few coats of the Flat Black, I really like the way it came out so I just left it as is. Title: Re: Fender and timing belt cover facelift Post by: speedknot on August 23, 2011, 09:04:18 PM Good eye. I just ran into my garage and checked it. Its the same on both sided and its torqued to spec. It does look like its backing out. Cheap piece of Italian garbage. Shoulda kept my Honda. [laugh]

Deal with the devil? [evil] The Devil already owns a piece of my soul. Thanks for the compliment. My bike is a garage queen. Its got only 5700 miles on the clock. Its one of those things where you buy it with the intention of actually using it and then you realize how little time you have to take it out and enjoy it. Ive always wanted this bike and will probably hold on to it for a long time. Even if I dont get to use it that much. :) |
