Title: Phillip Island Post by: tigre on October 14, 2010, 01:53:09 PM Here I am -- writing you from "the future" (aka Australia -- I'm 16 hours ahead of you suckers).
Anyway... heading over to the GP this morning. It is looking to be crappy wet cold weather today. Hopefully it will clear up in the next couple of days. Cheers, Tigre Title: Re: Phillip Island Post by: johnc on October 14, 2010, 04:28:25 PM you may indeed be situated 16 hours ahead, but you are hopelessly stuck 30 years behind (i.e.: in the 80's).
Here I am -- writing you from "the future" (aka Australia -- I'm 16 hours ahead of you suckers). Cheers, Tigre Title: Re: Phillip Island Post by: hihhs on October 14, 2010, 06:06:17 PM Jeebus... I couldn't even drag my sorry as to Laguna from San Francisco...
I am feeling totally lame. Enjoy Phillip Island! and POST PICS!!!! Title: Re: Phillip Island Post by: Spidey on October 14, 2010, 06:56:46 PM Dick. >:(
Get lots of pictures. [thumbsup] [moto] Title: Re: Phillip Island Post by: mostrobelle on October 14, 2010, 07:20:30 PM I found tiger-striped carpet today. It's 45.00 a square yard. Not a bad price, really. But it's no getting to watch GP--even if it is rainy. It's about time we had a rain race though...just sucks it's the race that you are going to.
Title: Re: Phillip Island Post by: DanTheMan on October 14, 2010, 08:04:44 PM Welcome to the future.
Enjoy! Title: Re: Phillip Island Post by: tigre on October 15, 2010, 12:27:01 AM It's so bright, I have to wear shades.
Sorry. Yeah, it was make the beast with two backsing cold today. I was outside for about 9 hours straight in ~55 degrees, rain, and heavy winds. They had to postpone GP practices by about an hour and a half due to flooding on the track. I've heard the roads to Victoria are closed due to flooding. Not like I know where that is, though. Ben Spies did 3 laps and decided to sit the rest of practice out because it was too cold. I'll try to get some pictures up there later. The track is EPIC. I just wish it weren't so f'in cold. Title: Re: Phillip Island Post by: mostrobelle on October 15, 2010, 07:58:52 AM Have you done the trackday there yet, or is that after GP?
Title: Re: Phillip Island Post by: desmoquattro on October 15, 2010, 08:01:51 AM Have you done the trackday there yet, or is that after GP? Bastard.... ;D Did you actually ship your bike down there? Title: Re: Phillip Island Post by: tigre on October 15, 2010, 11:39:25 AM Trackday is next week on Thursday, which is really more like Wednesday for you guys since I'm in the future... btw, I'm making a killing trading on the stock market and betting on sports events that have already happened.
No -- I didn't ship my bike. Given my luck with reliability, it would be too much of a back-breaker to show up and not have a running bike. Also, the weather was a bit of a gamble, although it looks like it may clear up nicely for me next week (current forecast says sunny, though a bit on the cold side... high of 21 degrees. Oh wait.. that's celsius). Title: Re: Phillip Island Post by: Drunken Monkey on October 15, 2010, 11:42:27 AM Dude. I hate you.
Also, have fun and be safe... No spoilers. I just wouldn't do that to you guys. However, I will point out that I got a private tour of Randy DePuniet's garage after morning warmup today from Lauren Vickers, of Lauren Vickers fame. Here's a photo of her -- I'll figure out how to post my photos (nsfw) later. (http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af276/motogepeng/Lauren%20Vickers/LV12.jpg) I also got a photo with Nicky Hayden after the morning warmup. No comments about the race. After the race, I got to "storm the track" with everyone else. The riders were "short-circuited" so I didn't get to run up to any of them. I walked from Siberia up to Lukey Heights and snapped a couple pictures. Title: Re: Phillip Island Post by: tigre on October 17, 2010, 04:22:03 AM Photos -- no spoilers

One of the highlights of the weekend. Not just because she's smokin' hot. Though that didn't hurt. Proof that I didn't just steal the other picture from someone else. (http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4148/5088676135_4da480c346.jpg) The other folks are the Aussies who got me into the garage. Iveco. I don't know what they make, but I want to buy 3 of whatever it is. (http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4106/5089286186_a368acc9bb.jpg) I had to clean up after everyone else so the track surface would be good for my trackday on Thursday. I was wearing a shit-ton of layers because it started the mornings in the 40s with 20mph winds and rain. Sunday ended up clearing up a bit by the end of the afternoon just in time for the MotoGP race. Apparently it's never rained for the big race in the 23 years they have been hosting at Phillip Island. Considering it rained the entire rest of the weekend, I'll give them "half-credit" for this one. Title: Re: Phillip Island Post by: mostrobelle on October 17, 2010, 01:53:23 PM So all the guys get their spank banks filled but no pictures of Randy d.P. for moi? Did he need to take off his leathers for any reason? Cuz it seems that his leathers usually need to come off. And thank god they do.
Title: Re: Phillip Island Post by: sidm on October 17, 2010, 01:59:08 PM nice pics.
MOAR pics of rdp's special lady! Title: Re: Phillip Island Post by: tigre on October 17, 2010, 05:02:00 PM Sorry.
The track commentators kept saying that was the greatest tragedy of the bad weather -- it was too cold for Randy to be strutting around in shorts. So all the guys get their spank banks filled but no pictures of Randy d.P. for moi? Did he need to take off his leathers for any reason? Cuz it seems that his leathers usually need to come off. And thank god they do. Title: Re: Phillip Island Post by: BikerGoddess on October 17, 2010, 10:21:43 PM OK, how many body parts/favors did you have to donate to A) go on this awesome trip, and B) get your picture taken with Hayden? BTW, pics or it didn't happen.

Title: Re: Phillip Island Post by: tigre on October 21, 2010, 12:44:18 AM Weather was near-perfect. Low 70s, sunny, light breeze most of the day. Last session got a little windier (I could only hit about 245km/hr on the front straight instead of 250+). But that's okay, because I was able to haul through turn 3 just a little faster -- getting a little over 205km/hr.

I ran into two other AFMers who were here on a similar expedition and we hung out together during the day.
