A relative who works as a dispatcher just told me a couple riding ducati's was hit at a 4 way stop when a car failed to stop in AZ, Phoenix area. Wife was killed they think instantly, lost her leg etc, not sure if the guy was hurt. Don't know if anybody knows more but be safe out there.
Thoughts are with them, can't help but put myself in their place in my head and its pretty awful.
Husband was back home on a few wks leave from Afghanistan and this was last night before going back. Driver was drunk to the point he shouldn't have been functioning let alone driving, didn't even slow down. 4 year old daughter.
WTF
Holy shit! Bastard drunk drivers! >:( Idiot was probably trying to text while he was at it!! [bang] That's an awful story.
this guy should get life in prison if not the ultimate price. needless accident and avoidable at that.
On leave from Afghanistan and he has to deal with this?
I am officially marking AZ off my list of states I want to ride in. They seem to really slaughter riders out there.
mitt
That's really awful! And extremely angering. Trying to think who it could be and if I might know who they are.
WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE. IF YOU WANT TO make the beast with two backsING DRINK, DON'T make the beast with two backsING DRIVE!!! This type of accident is just heart breaking. :'(
i am so painfully make the beast with two backsing sick of hearing this kind of story. A car in most people hands is a deadly weapon to begin with and sadly too many people decide that drinking before they drive is a good idea. make the beast with two backsing bastards.
that is all
nothing follows
make the beast with two backs
can someone point me ot the news story on this
Not sure if there is one, happened last night. My relative is pretty upset and she just was in dispatch.
the only news story out of AZ about moto crash was a 62 year old ride who ran into the back of a truck and died.
there was another about a drunk driver that hit a car and killed the R&B singer... oh on a side not, literaly like the last paragraph a moped rider ran into the accident and died at the scene. pissed me off it was an afterthought to the story.
I'll see if I can get more info. Scary to look up motorcycle accident on google news limited to 24hrs.... lots of drunks in cages wiping people out. makes me think bad thoughts... >:(
wow - sad story - bad story.
I was in a cage with my "eeew" step father driving... definitely not drunk.... He ran 3 stop signs with me as a front passenger and my mother in the back!!!! I am SO AFRAID for EVERYONE on the road when he is driving!!! Thinking about him not seeing stop signs, makes him not seeing bikes a given!! It's MADDENING!!! He's just a plain-old super crappy-ass driver, and he's not even that old!!! Oh yeah, and he actually is a volunteer ambulance person, AND driver - WTF?!?!?!?
What can ya do??? Also, he drives a Prius (big surprise!) and he actually LEFT IT RUNNING BY MISTAKE as we picked apples for an hour in Warwick NY. Is there a cure for stupidity? Maybe someone from the NRA can straighten him out.
So I KNOW there are bad drivers EVERYWHERE, not just AZ, and I hope everyone can try to anticipate sheer driver stupidity and stay out of harms way.
It's just sad that you have to ride like no one sees you, no one cares if you're there or not, no one cares if they run you down or not, that everyone will turn left in front of you or run that stop sign/red light and that everyone is really out to kill you. Kinda takes some of the fun out of riding, doesn't it? [bang] Doesn't make me want to stop riding. I just hate the make the beast with two backsers out there that have honestly driven me to that state of mind because they constantly prove everything I just said is true! >:(
so sad and preventable :'(
Apparently this was in Goodyear AZ.
VERY sad to hear! We have so many dipshit drivers here it's crazy!! It's worse now since we have all the tourists and snowbirds back for the winter months. [thumbsdown]
Last month, I went through an accident scene on I-10. There was a car that was mangled and an SUV that was turned around. My first thought..that's odd, how did it get turned around like that?? When I arrived at work, I found out that before sunrise..the drunk driver of the SUV entered the highway going the wrong way and killed the two girls in the car. >:(
Unfortunately, it happens everyday here around PHX!
this is why, when my daughter decided to go to school in PHX, I told her there was no way she was taking her car! My parents are living in the area, between their horror stories & what I've seen myself down there, there was no way. And I log 30-40k miles in the Northeast!
just heartbreaking to hear... everyday on the radio I hear at least three "motorcyclist down" incidents on the traffic reports. Los Angeles drivers are the worst.
And people wonder why I have this sticker on my helmet... [roll]

Maybe it pisses drivers off, but maybe it gives some food for thought.
I won't hold my breath, though. :-X

It's dangerous everywhere, but Phoenix seems to be more so than most places. My time there was hair raising.
Sad to hear my thoughts go out to the husband. As a serving military member(Canadian, but we are all brothers in arms), just having returned from that place, I can't imagine what the husband is feeling, I hope he has some very supportive friends and family.
I wonder if this was the accident: http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2010/10/18/20101018buckeye-woman-killed-when-motorcycle-rear-ended.html (http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2010/10/18/20101018buckeye-woman-killed-when-motorcycle-rear-ended.html)
Sad to hear! AZ...One of the only places you have to worry about being run over by methed out truck drivers and getting hit by drunk drivers on a regular basis all while sitting perfectly still. . Apparently you can never stop at a stop light if you ride a motorcycle in AZ, cause that is where all of these tragic and pointless motorcycle fatalities happen. ...Perfect I'm glad I'm moving to Texas..
I bet the driver gets off easy, too. [roll]
Very sad
How has our fellow DMF'r been doing that was rear ended on the freeway by the drunk policeman in AZ?

We were out with his brother, Larry "landshark", a couple months ago. It seems like his brother moved up the NW, bought a house and land and is doing well. I don't recall allthe details. I'm sure Randimus can fill you in.
Kinda late reading this post. What an awful and sad story. I ride to work in Phoenix and I gotta tell you that no matter what you do, sometimes some caggers just DON'T see you. I hear often that Phoenix is one of the worst places to ride, but back in Indonesia was even scarrier. My heart goes to the husband and the child.
