Title: change oil after running on 1 cylinder for ~50 miles?
Post by: booger on October 18, 2010, 07:01:15 PM
I was on a road trip recently where the engine ground came loose and caused the ECU to only fire one cylinder. Took me about 50 miles to figure it out. The cylinder that wasn't firing - would the injector pulsing fuel in have washed the cylinder walls with fuel and diluted the oil during those 50 or so miles? I only have about 500 miles or so on the oil change. I used Yamaha full synthetic 15w-50 and it was expensive. I'd err on the side of safety and change anyway but that stuff cost me $14/qt + filter and I don't want to change good oil if I don't absolutely have to just yet. Any ideas?

Does the oil smell gassy? If not leave it alone.

You can't undo any damage that might have happened with fresh oil.
