Title: torque settings for front wheel axle
Post by: jsanford on October 23, 2010, 09:34:29 AM
About to take the front wheel off my '08 M695 to get the front tire replaced.

What are the torque settings for the bolts when I put it back on?

And while we're at it, is there a factory service manual in English available somewhere?

Thanks in advance!!

Can't help with the torque settings unless they're here   http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=373.0 (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=373.0)

This (http://www.duc.nu/manuals/) should get you a manual

My 05 Monster 620 is 63 Nm, 1Nm = .7375 ft lbs. From the link above an 07 S4RS has the same torque value for the front wheel nut so I assume yours is the same.

You can get owners manuals and parts catalogs here http://www.ducati.com/services/maintenance/index.do (http://www.ducati.com/services/maintenance/index.do)

Don't know about a service manual for the 695

hope that helps

EDIT: Ducati Omaha has the service manual for sale, $54.99. Part #91470721A. I'd call em, they probably have to order it from Ducati.

Thanks all on the wheel nut and the manual tip with Ducati of Omaha--mine's on the way.

So, 63Nm is for the big nut on the left side, I presume--any special setting for the smaller bolt pairs at the end of the fork?  Do the brake calipers need a particular torque setting?  I found that they were crazy-tight on the right, not so much on the left; but it's not like I've checked them.  :-\

Finally, there was a thin coating of some sort of grease on the axle sleeve (axle tube?) perhaps just from manufacture, but does anyone know what it is and whether I should replenish it?

The only other front wheel I've removed was from a '77 KH400...it was a little different.  ;D

20 Nm. for the pinch bolts, 43 Nm. for the calipers.  Grease on caliper bolts too.  Use what you got, as long as it is water proof.  The purpose of the grease is to prevent corrosion, particularly galvanic reaction between the dissimilar metals.

Oh, on the pinch bolts, torque one, then the other, then retorque the first one again.

Awesome, thank you. Picked up the wheel with the new tire and can't wait to scrub it in.  [moto]
