Title: Small Town Ride
Post by: the_Journeyman on October 25, 2010, 08:42:38 AM
Took another ride on Saturday.  Planned it to give me both great roads and to take me through small towns that are disappearing.  Plenty of these little small towns left.  My route took me along the railroad for a good bit.  A couple of these still have the depots intact.  These are all in the NC mountains.

First, a little scenery:

A place called "The Bridge of Madison County" has a tiny house and a tiny church.

Sams Gap, it's a really steep section if I-26 right on the NC/TN state line

Sundial, pretty accurate, I took this picture just after five.

Nice photos during great weather.  I betcha it looks A LOT different (i.e. miserable) during the winter.  I choose California, earthquakes and all. ;D
Ciao!

I've ridden through the North Georgia mountains even in winter. It's cold, but still beautiful. Just don't ride after an ice storm.

Your pictures are really beautiful. I love autumn...and miss it. Out here in the desert we don't see changes like that.

Nice!  [thumbsup]

Ciao!

Snow comes and goes, but overall it's not terrible in the winter.  It's handy to keep a AWD/4WD around for the couple good snows we get.  Last year we only had two significant snows that kept me off the bike for an more than a couple days ~

Those are nice photos...thanks...

Buckner Gap has some great views as well...one of my favorites is Winding Stair Gap down by Franklin

and those little hamlets are a national treasure that is evaporating...

probably the one silver lining of The Reconstructions was that it left the rural South poor as dirt and not worth picking through

so a lot of places got frozen in time for a long while

but that has been changing :-/

I'll check out Buckner and Winding Stair, Winding stair is closer than the ones in the pics above ~

That cruiser looks to be an early 60s Galaxy.

Probly has a 427 side oiler in it.

Don't try to run from it if the road is straight. ;D

The back end said Fairlane 500.  Not sure what was in it or if it even ran, but cool none the less.

*heads off to research a 427 side oiler*

A Fairlane could have hat motor too.
