Title: Fuel pump system on carb'd monsters
Post by: 671M900 on October 27, 2010, 03:21:58 AM
Alright, step by step, and I have the DMF to thank every step of the way!

So I have FCR41's to install on the bike, but how do I hookup the fuel system? The tank has no lines on it, I was give a bunch of new fuel lines with the bike. From what I can see in the service manual, there are two drain hoses, and two ports that connect to each other, and have a union in the middle where the fuel comes from. There's supposed to be a manual petcock as well. After that, it doesn't mention anything else.

I have one of them rectangular vacuum fuel pumps from sudco, I assume the top port comes from the gas tank, and the bottom port goes to the carbs. The port in the middle is a vacuum port, correct?

If so, where does the vacuum for the pump come from? One of the intake tracts? Also, is there no other fuel petcock or valve? Never had a bike with this system, so this is all new to me!

Also, I have one of these, which a search on google show that it's a fuel pressure regulator

Line from tank through filter to the vacuum petcock. That's the item in the second picture. Don't use it. Get a manual one.

From there to the fuel pump. It looks to me like you have the in and out reversed...follow the arrows for flow.

The vacuum comes from the intake.

Where in the intake? The sync ports? Thanks again humorless dp! Was thinking of getting a manual one, or rather, just a fuel on off valve right?

There should be another vacuum nipple on the intake...one for the pump and one for the petcock. I think they're on the horizontal cyl. If you use the synch ports you won't be able to run it while you synch. Do you have the long intakes?

Yes 5/16" in and out fuel shut off.

So I'd only need one, and cap off the petcock one, right? Define long intakes? I have what seems to be the stock intakes.

You will only need the vacuum to the pump, so, correct cap the port on the intake that went to the petcock.

FCRs can be mounted on 'short' intakes, but then they are split. Yours most likely are still bolted together and in the stock location replacing the Mikunis on the 'long' intakes.
