Title: 696 rear L.H. indicator broken
Post by: TWDucfan on November 02, 2010, 09:58:24 PM
Went for a ride earlier today, got on the bike my leg touched the L.H. indicator and it snapped right off. Not only that the plastic fender thing indicator mounted on also cracked.  [bang] [bang] [bang]

Didn't even hit it hard just brushed it those plastic parts are brittle. [thumbsdown]

 Anybody had the same experience?

Yep, it's the easiest and quickest mod to do on a 696 or 1100.   [laugh]

Time to get a fender eliminator now and some aftermarket turn signals (they will be cheaper than DP).  When I had my 696, I did the same thing, right turn signal, and tried everything to mount it back on with no luck.  Think I read somewhere it is designed to be fragile so it snaps instead of your bike tipping.

make the beast with two backs it. Use hand signals.

[laugh] Hows that for marketing spin??  Come up with a feeble easy to break design...... and then attempt to dress it up as a benefit...  [roll]  [laugh] [laugh]

Same shit happened to me.  You can get a Competition Werkes fender eliminator and bolt the sucker right in there.  That's what I did.  There are also some nice aftermarket options for new light stalks/bulbs.

OR...

Allen at Spectrum got some of those LED lights on a strip and wired them up to his indicators so the left and right sides on a strip of lights will blink orange/yellow, and when you brake the running red goes BRIGHTER.  It was for a project M696 he did.  I'm pretty sure he's using it for track days now.  Looks pretty damn sweet, actually.  Not certain about the legality of an integrated indicator when it comes to the California Penal Code, but I doubt most street cops will care if you're actually using your damn indicators.  CHP, on the other hand...  Depends who's on the road that day.

Go for evotech tail chop, best craftsmanship you can get for a 696 tail chop.

The CompWerkes kit is pretty unpolished for the price they charge.

There are a couple threads reviewing the 696 chops, I'm too lazy so search them up!

As far as the turnsignals... I'd probably get the rizoma avio 21.. best looking IMHO, though rizoma is overpriced.

i did that same exact thing on the GFs 696 so before she got home i broke out some JB kwick weld put a lil bit around the part that broke and held it there with some electrical tape 20 minutes later i took the tape off and she never knew what happened ... that is untill she was standing next to me when i threw a leg over again a few months later and my big ass shoe hit it and broke it again in another spot.  [bang] [bang] [bang]
so out came the JB weld again that was 7 months ago or about 4k miles. its still strong up till now and you can barley see the seam... well almost barely

Sorry, I should have clarified.  I read it on a similar post so it may not be a factual statement, just someone else's opinion.  Sorry if that was misleading.
