Title: Need help: CEL on - Error code: CAN Post by: BrunoMM on November 05, 2010, 01:00:59 PM (I searched) ;)
Hi gentleman, I was getting back home after a 100miles round trip when the CEL light came on. The error code was CAN (comm. between ECU and panel). As the light came on all the information on the panel disappeared (RPM, speed, oil temp...). I stopped shut the engine down and tried to start it again several times (with the CAN message still displayed), unsuccessfully. It only started up after the message disappeared after a few minutes. I had this problem 2 more times within a week and decided to go to the dealer. The dealer here at my city (Sao Paulo) is not so reliable... The techs told me that they could not find where exactly the failure was and their conclusion was that it was on the panel ??? Inputs? Can someone help me help my incompetent dealer? Anyone here ever had the same problem? ps:I had this problem with the stock ECU and DP ECU. Thank you guys, Regards from Brazil Title: Re: Need help: CEL on - Error code: CAN Post by: caperix on November 05, 2010, 02:13:55 PM I have not had any can bus problems on my duc, but do have some can experiance in automotive. The auto market started using can in the early '90's and it has been fairly reliable. Most problems tend to be wiring over control modules. All the systems I have seen use 2 terminating resistors, some inside control modules some outside. The ones outside of control modules are common sources of problems. If the problem happens with 2 different ECU's it is most likley either a damaged wire or a cluster. Sorry I cant give you better info but can network problems tend to be hard to find with out a scope.

I'll keep you updated on the results. Regards Title: Re: Need help: CEL on - Error code: CAN Post by: BrunoMM on June 06, 2011, 11:26:45 AM As you guys said, it was a wiring problem.
Now it's solved. Thank you !!! Regards from Brazil |
