Anyone ever had or heard of an extracellular matrix transplant used to heal damaged tissue?

About a year ago I heard about the successful example of a soldier regrowing an entire thumb (pefectly with a nail and all) by using the powder - amazing!!!
Here's a blurb from a success story in 2008:
"A man cut off his finger tip while working on a model plane. His brother, a medical research scientist, sent him a vial containing powdered pig bladder and told him to sprinkle on the severed finger tip. It grew back -- "flesh, blood, vessels and nail" -- in four weeks."
5 bucks says Dr Wolf used it to try and grow hair.

Interesting...
Though I can see both sides of the truth vs. the implausible, that article doesn't present any facts other than the guys finger wasn't cut off as far down the finger as previously thought.
