Title: Last Ride of the Season Post by: WarrenJ on November 10, 2010, 12:01:07 PM Just went for a quick 40 mile loop while the weather holds. 60F today and snow for the weekend. The end of another riding season. Had fun - rode like a hooligan - great last ride! [evil] Now all I need is a bunch of snow for SKIING!!!!!!!!
Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: Fergus on November 10, 2010, 12:14:54 PM I may have had my last ride and didn't know it. It's been snowing and raining for several days and the forecast is more of the same.
Glad you could enjoy it. [thumbsdown] [thumbsdown] Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: metallimonster on November 10, 2010, 01:02:34 PM Just took the next two days off of work since it's going to be in the high 60's here in Ohio. Going to ride the shit out of her and try out my new monstrack mirrors when they get here tomorrow. [thumbsup]
Then back to cold weather and football. Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: Raux on November 10, 2010, 02:32:28 PM I just heard a bad 'last ride of the season' story.
Local Duc owner (HM1100S) cleaned the bike up to put away for storage and was going down the block to shake out all the water etc from cleaning when coming up to the stop light on cold tires had the rear slide out on him. low sided it, shattered his shoulder. Bike is fine, actually very minor damage, but he's going to have a very very sore winter. so... be careful all. Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: ungeheuer on November 10, 2010, 03:06:20 PM Huh? There's a riding season? 8)
Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: Speedbag on November 10, 2010, 04:07:22 PM It's been incredibly unseasonably warm in MN lately. So I rode to work today, probably for the last time of the year. The temps are to drop significantly from here through the weekend.
:P Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: jvax on November 10, 2010, 04:32:20 PM Huh? There's a riding season? 8) +1 ;D I'm lucky it snows only a couple times a year where I live. I plan on riding all year [moto] Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: The Bacon Junkie on November 10, 2010, 06:49:24 PM What's snow? ???

Bro-in-law (SM950) and I took a smooth swift ride up SC 28 (best road ever) to Highlands, NC for lunch. It was a spectacular day - warm golden sun shining through the last brilliant colors of autumn foliage. The road was perfect, clean and devoid of danger except of a couple of white tail deer and a couple of huge logging trucks, neither of which lasted but a few seconds. The open Akrapovics and Termis were making some beautiful noise today.
Thankfully, there's no real end to the riding season here in the lower Appalachians. Enjoy these last few good days. Tomorrow is supposed to be 71 and sunny here again. [thumbsup] [moto] LA Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: Veloce-Fino on November 10, 2010, 07:43:40 PM Hmm... I do have 4 weeks off between semesters over December/January.
Perhaps I can visit my uncle in SoCal and borrow/steal a bike for a few weeks. I've never been to california. From what I hear and see on the news it's either terrifying or beautiful. The worst kinds of winter is where it is just cold and muddy. If you are going to have a winter, there should be snow up to your eyeballs. If we have good snow, I crosscountry just about every day and get downhill once a week or so. I'm hoping to take the Amtrak to Whitefish,Mt for a week of skiing. Also involved with the Wisconsin Biathlon Assn.
Once the Duc gets bedded down for the winter, I can reconvert the garage from motorcycles back into a forge/knifemaking shop too. I've been drawing up ideas all summer so its time to do different things for a few months. I'm ready for winter. I got a basement full of wood for the boiler and a new set of Volkl skis so its time for snow now! From what I hear and see on the news it's either terrifying or beautiful. where in SoCal does your uncle live? It's both. Beautiful be the canyon roads. [thumbsup] [drool] [bow_down] Terrifying be the freeways. :o :-X [thumbsdown] You've got yourself a tour guide to the local canyons if ya decide to come out... [moto] If you decide to come, post up in the SoCal local board. Lots of good, decent people out here. 8) [bacon] Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: AkLiz on November 10, 2010, 10:11:57 PM My last ride for the season was a couple of weeks ago. We now have about 4 inches of snow on the ground and 4 bikes in the house. April feels like forever away... :'( :'(
Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: The Bacon Junkie on November 10, 2010, 10:13:39 PM Think of it this way... 6 months to do some pregnant dogin' mods! ;)
[moto] [bacon] Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: AkLiz on November 10, 2010, 11:20:18 PM You have an excellent point, and there will be some modding taking place :) Still not quite the same as riding, but at least maintenance and mods won't interfere with riding season.
Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: seevtsaab on November 12, 2010, 04:42:25 AM I'm holding out hope, not planning to quit yet.
Roads here pretty icy for a few days, and my driveway has had ice all make the beast with two backsing week long. Last 2 sunny days haven't even melted the snow off my south facing deck. I love winter, but, whoa. Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: Speedbag on November 15, 2010, 06:11:39 AM Argh.
Nearly a foot of snow over the weekend. The riding season is officially over. :P Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: fastwin on November 15, 2010, 08:04:18 AM It can get funky here in north TX in the winter but there are also some great chilly/cool (not cold) rides to be had. Heck, I remember in 2008 we had a nice big group ride the first weekend in January. It was around 70+ degrees, breezy but sunny and warm. Great way to start the year! Of course around here it can be 70+ and sunny today and 30+ and sleeting tomorrow. Typical goofy Texas weather. As the saying goes in Texas: if you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes.
I'd have serious trouble living in a place that actually went into deep freeze/hibernation for the winter. Even if I'm not out riding I still like being outside walking the pooch, going to my farm, etc. without freezing my ass off. Good luck to you all snow bound until spring! The worst part of my winter is the lack of bike racing. [bang] Come on February 27th for that first WSBK race at Phillip Island!! [thumbsup] [moto] [drink] [bow_down] Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: redxblack on November 15, 2010, 08:25:59 AM I gave up my last riding day on Saturday. Temps in the high 60s - local dealer had an "open house" with the local club hosting free food/non-alcoholic beverages. Instead of hooliganing on over and hanging out, I took my wife to Buffalo to watch the Sabres (her favorite team). She has no idea my sacrifice either, which is the real bummer.
Oh well. I got all my mods for this year done and will get to ride like a demon in the spring. I have to top up the tank and add some sta-bil, but the riding season is likely over now. Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: Doctor Woodrow on November 15, 2010, 10:53:33 AM Huh? There's a riding season? 8) Yeah, i'm confused too. I thought riding season meant from when you learn to walk, until you can't, sometimes longer. Portland weather doesn't get me down, snow WITH ice is about all that stops me. The Doc Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: DoubleEagle on November 18, 2010, 10:10:23 PM I went for a 5 hour ride yesterday.
It was cloudy and a 15 mph breeze . The temperature never got out of the 40s . I had on 2 pairs of thermals under my leathers .....and was chilled to the bone ! That may have been my last ride of the season. Next week the advanced forecast is for rain and temps when it's not raining only in the low 40s. Cold pavement and BIG HP could lead to a BIG crash . Dolph :( Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: redxblack on November 20, 2010, 05:39:01 PM I went out for an hour today. Temps in the mid 40s. I'm going to winterize tomorrow and wait for the spring. I didn't ride nearly enough this year - I'll make up for it in the spring. [thumbsup]
Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: Howie on November 21, 2010, 06:30:19 AM Mid 40's reminds me it's time to get the 20W-50 out and the 10W-40 in. Gotta find the winter liner for one of my jackets too.
Title: Re: Last Ride of the Season Post by: redxblack on November 21, 2010, 05:24:01 PM I went to fill the tank and 80 miles later bothered to get to the gas station. It was a nice ride for sure.

It's the one that had the flaming proclivities near Cleveland. There's some nice curvy roads around this meandering river. I love winter, but, whoa. Sunday 11/13 washed, buttoned it up, WD-40 or Klasse AIO. Man it was tough starting it up and riding it down to the lower garage, she wanted to go! But, my road is trash, mini mud season this time of year. |
