Welcome to the site. Nothing wrong with a used monster, as long as it has been well maintained.

As far as years to avoid....the only thing that springs to mind is the swelling issue with the plastic tanks on the newer models.

Ask the same question in the general forum, and you will get plenty of feedback.

Welcome to the DMF! :)

I agree with avoiding the bikes with the plastic tank issues...get an older one with a metal tank.

Good luck and keep us updated!

Watch out for the S4.. many have had issues with flaking valve rockers.

As said, nothing wrong with a used Monster. I bought one with almost 18K miles on it and will hit 32k soon with the only thing to let me down being a battery.

Obviously buyer beware and all that... Any bike if not kept up properly will be a problem. So if you're looking for used, find one that's got a good maintenance records and a seller that isn't afraid to answer questions.  I put a lot of stock in a seller who is willing to answer any questions you have about the bike, and even offering up info you might not ask about.
