Congrats!   She's a beauty!!!

I often think about  my 87 GTI.  That thing went like stink and was practical as hell.  Not to mention my gateway drug to club racing.  Bought it new in 88, put 175K on it in nine years...only major issue was a transmission replacement at 150K.

A guy at work has one (2009?) and it's a screamer.  He's got some upgraded goodies under the hood and an exhaust that is a work of art.  All polished stainless and sounds wicked.

I had a 2006 GTI and currently have a 2011 TDI, both great fun cars. Enjoy yours.  [thumbsup]

Thanks everybody.  It's my first car that wasn't at least 10 years old when I got it.  I am exceptionally happy right now.  I think it'll be a while before I really get to do anything to it but the APR ECU upgrade and a new exhaust are definitely on the list.

Now we'll let you in on a little secret. Once bitten by the German car bug, no hope, and no cure.  ;D
I say this from first hand knowlege, over the last thirty years the wife and I have owned 4 VW's , 3 Audi's, and currently a pair of BMW's.

The ultimate would be to do an European Delivery on any flavor Porsche 911. (Audi's and BMW's are electronicly limited to 155 mph, Porsche's aren't  [evil], don't think the AMG M-B's are limited either, trying to remember what blew by me the last time I drove the autobahn)

Congrats!!   ;D   [thumbsup]

Was out in the local mountains today and had a big group of GTIs pass by while I waited at a stop sign.  Mostly late models but there were a couple of Mk 1, 2 and 3s in the mix.  I honked and thumbs-uped them...they looked like they were having fun (and they werent going to be in my way as I was headed in a different direction  [thumbsup])

Crazy?  I wouldn't say that, as they are damn fine cars.

Did either of you go with the DSG?

Freakin' sweet.  [thumbsup]

I had to go 4Motion Tiguan due to my locale. It handled the weekend's near-foot of snow with aplomb.  :)

I commute from Bristow to Reston, damn skippy I went with the DSG.  Traffic is only getting worse.  The clutch isn't bad on the GTI but I think I'd go insane.  Right now the only thing driving me crazy is the break-in.  I'm trying to have as much fun as I can without going too far over 4500 rpm.  Kinda hard to do.

I wanted blue but they didn't have one so I went with the next best thing.

Break-in??

As long as you've got a hundred or so initial, careful miles on it, drive it like it's yours.  ;D

man, that must suck in the summertime with Nissan Pavilion (or whatever it is called now) traffic, unless you are using like 7100 to 29 to 28 or something to that effect...but between Reston down to 66, there's lots of little burst fun roads to play on...

wouldn't they consider picking up a blue one from another dealer for you?....our dealership does it all the time...

I actually live not too far from Nissan/Jiffy-lube Live and the traffic does kinda blow.  Especially if you don't know there's an event and try to drive down Wellington Rd.

The color wasn't that big a deal since they had red.  If all they had were the black and gray, it would have been a problem.

I own your car's great great grandfather.

Not a fan of the new ones only because of their curb weights, but love the look compared to the MkVs. Get that puppy chipped and go have some fun :D

I disagree....

a MK1 83/84 solid lifter head 1.8 JH code with a 4K trans is a REAL GTi

but I am kinda personally biased, as I have always loved the MK1 chassis over the MK2...

Coincidentally it's only a Golf but shhhhhh :D

I'm a MkI fan as well but this one kind of fell in my lap. Well kinda "fell" in, it started like this...

When we had our '06 GTI, on the way home from picking it up from the dealership, some jackass in an Eclipse was challenging my wife to race. He was blowing his horn and yelling out his window at her. She got annoyed by him, stomped on it and didn't let off until she could no longer see him. She told me this later on and I was like, "You are supposed to break it in a little bit you know."  [laugh]

She did.  As long as you avoid constant speed and load you are fine.  The Audi I test drove is the one I bought.  Pedal to the metal on the test drive.  I had to check out how well the Quatro system worked in the rain.
