Title: So here's what a 2 year project looks like **4/28/12, new pics on pg 4** Post by: Pedro-bot on November 14, 2010, 12:07:54 PM I bought this bike 2 years ago.
The Plan: It's intention was for my wife to learn on, then once she's dropped it a few times fix it up so it looks nice and shiny for her. 8) What really happened: She dropped it once at full stop and she gave up on riding. :P The outcome: I kept the bike and fixed it up to keep for myself. ;D It's been a slow build and it still has a few things that need to be worked on....but they're not major. I have previously posted with pics of her in an incomplete stage. Upgrades, changes made: S2R 1K front forks Paul Smart 2 pot calipers Paul Smart Wheels Dart Fly Screen 848 Clutch and Brake master cylinders Rizoma grips ASV Brake and Clutch shorty levers CRG Lane Splitter RH mirror SSR preload adjusters Cycle Cat Top Triple Cycle Cat clipons Acewell tach/speedo SpeedyMoto belt covers MonsterParts oil cap temp gauge STM crank case breather CNC Racing keyless gas cap Corbin Seat SS bolt kit K&N pod filters Gel maintenance free battery Nology Spark plug wires Factory Pro jet carb kit Frame and various parts powdercoated Things I still need/want A better rear shock Rizoma fluid reservoirs Clean up the wiring Rizoma rearsets with passenger pegs Reverse Megaphone exhaust, like that available for the SC line motos Work out the blinker electrical gremlins Rear brake lever Gaurdian bell A tank theme, need some ideas... Here's what she looked like when I first got her. Did you 86 the dash for the orginal speedo w/ tach, or do you still have it? Title: Re: So here's what a 2 year project looks like Post by: junior varsity on November 14, 2010, 01:30:50 PM i just bought a monster for my wife for pretty much the same reason: she can learn on it, or backup plan: i have a second monster to tinker with differently than the first.

Thanks. Well the speedo is still around, without housing or idiot lights. Those got hacked for the new speedo. i just bought a monster for my wife for pretty much the same reason: she can learn on it, or backup plan: i have a second monster to tinker with differently than the first. Yeah, they're great little bikes to tinker with. [thumbsup] My first Monster is an '02 S4, which I converted to a SSS Monster. I love that bike, it rides like a bull. But this little 750 feels like magic. I thought I knew how fun a Monster was, but not like I do know. It's a great little bike. Your bike looks awesome. Did the Sport Classic exhaust not work out? They look perfect in this picture. What about the forks in this picture? Did these not work with the Paul Smart wheels or did you not use them for another reason? By any chance do you still have the old bar risers? I just bought my wife Bacon Junkie's old bike, and I need to de clip-on it. Trying to track down risers and bars without having to buy new. If you happen to and are willing to sell them, drop me a message. Otherwise though, bike looks great. Love those wheels. love it. I've been looking for pictures of a monster that has some of these features as a reference, and I like. [thumbsup] Title: Re: So here's what a 2 year project looks like Post by: Pedro-bot on November 14, 2010, 08:10:55 PM I love your work. Your bike looks awesome. Did the Sport Classic exhaust not work out? They look perfect in this picture. What about the forks in this picture? Did these not work with the Paul Smart wheels or did you not use them for another reason? It actually fit surprisingly well. It's too heavy though. They look good from this angle but the cans made the rear look way to heavy from other angles. Originally went with GSXR forks, but the radial calipers are too wide, even for a single disc setup without shaving the caliper. Didnt feel comfortable doing that so opted for 2 pot setup with S2R1K forks. Woooeeee. Bike looks great! By any chance do you still have the old bar risers? I just bought my wife Bacon Junkie's old bike, and I need to de clip-on it. Trying to track down risers and bars without having to buy new. Thanks. Title: Re: So here's what a 2 year project looks like Post by: ccm900 on November 14, 2010, 10:53:28 PM what battery did you end up using? Also how do you like the Dart screen?
Title: Re: So here's what a 2 year project looks like Post by: Mojo S2R on November 14, 2010, 11:35:13 PM Very nicely done. I would love to get hold of an old ratty 620 or 750 and fix it up much like you did. Love those wheels. [thumbsup]
For a tank idea. How about - paint the tank black to match the engine and put "Ducati" in one of the old style Ducati fonts on the tank in gold to match the rest of the bike? Title: Re: So here's what a 2 year project looks like Post by: Pedro-bot on November 15, 2010, 07:39:55 AM what battery did you end up using? Also how do you like the Dart screen? [bacon] I like the Dart screen. I haven't taken the Monster out on the highway but it seems to work really well. Yesterday was a little chilly outside and it did a great job of blocking the wind at a brisk pace of 45-50mph. [thumbsup] Title: Re: So here's what a 2 year project looks like Post by: Slide Panda on November 15, 2010, 11:21:44 AM hard to believe that's the same bike when I look at the before and afters. Find a way to get a polished can back on there -- one with a classic look like the SC. Title: Re: So here's what a 2 year project looks like Post by: Monstyr on November 15, 2010, 03:01:54 PM Very nice.
Next step.... get rid of those tyres, ...seriously! They are the most confidence sapping nervous tyres I've ever ridden on and now they've been replaced on my SC its like I've been given back the joy of a smooth handling bike without worrying about what little road mark my tyres will track along next. Title: Re: So here's what a 2 year project looks like Post by: lazylightnin717 on November 15, 2010, 06:50:45 PM Love the color combo [bacon]

Nice job, man. I think I want to do some powder coating this winter. Need to figure out a way to warm up the garage. Really? I haven't put any serious riding time on them. I'll keep that in mind when I finally get to take the bike out on a spirited ride. Thanks for the compliments guys. I'll be making some new oil lines this weekend. The current lines are in poor shape. I also ordered some tasty Rizoma fluid reservoirs. I'm not terribly familiar with telling bikes apart, but is that not a dry clutch? With all the other bling and shiny bits on there, why no open clutch cover? Of course, if it's a wet clutch, don't mind me [roll] Title: Re: So here's what a 2 year project looks like Post by: kopfjäger on November 15, 2010, 10:29:23 PM Wow, I wish I had the time/money/know how to make my 96 m900 look like that... That tank needs to be a more flashy color than blue to match the rest of that cool bike, maybe a red or silver base with touches of gold, black, and silver from the parts on your bike. Title: Re: So here's what a 2 year project looks like Post by: djrashonal on November 18, 2010, 08:26:58 PM I dig it! How do you like that Acewell gauge? The Acewell works ok. Lights up in blue and looks pretty cool at night. The readout can look a little IZ_ with vibration and angle you look at it from. Otherwise it works pretty well. I still have to work out a couple of kinks though: 1. Blinkers 2. Speedo (I lost the magnet but I'm thinking of picking one up from a bike shop) Put together some blingy oil lines today. No you dont, it is easily rerouted round the other side of the cylinder head, just unbolt it from the starter and carefully trace it up to where it branches off the loom and push it through the frame above the head and pull it down the other side where it'll will just reach the starter again. I did this with my SC though have yet to the monster as well, perhaps this winter. Sil moto high mount exhaust Ditched the Corbin seat for a Sargent DP coils New horizontal exhaust valve ( thanks to my shop rag fiasco :-X ) I have a few items that are pending install: 1. Cycle cat rearsets 2. Speedy moto front sprocket cover to match the open covers 3. New rear shock 4. I have a set of low mount Sil moto meggy's, maybe I'll swap 'em at some point. 5. LED rear brake light with integrated turn signals. And a few other pieces I'd like to get the forks hard anodized and maybe get a new set of triples from IMA. Black ceramic coat the exhaust(s) is also in the long-term plans and wrap this project up with some FCR's and Alpina wheels (black hub with silver spokes). ...however, consider replacing the Pirelli Phantoms you have fitted, they are now getting on a bit and were the most confidence sapping tyre I've ever used even when they were new, I now use Angels instead and its like a new bike again though the choice is yours pretty much anything else will be an improvement. I'll snap some pics and post up for more feedback. Reason I went with the high mounts was to showcase those spokies, the low mounts block the rear wheel a bit more than I like. Thanks, yes they do come unglued quite easy. I can't imagine what they would feel like with more torquey motor than my lil 750. Here's what I have in mind. I put the lines together myself. :D See link. http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=40739.15 (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=40739.15) Title: Re: So here's what a 2 year project looks like **4/28/12, new pics on pg 4** Post by: junior varsity on May 01, 2012, 06:27:40 AM For the low mounts, the ones I had were the DP ones - they were not light, but they looked "just right" as far as classic reverse megaphones from the old era ducs (mine were the matte silver finish and Magnus has since gotten them coated black for even better looks, ... i think its magnus)
the dp ones were frankly quite 'heavy' and awesomely loud. The sils look a bit different BUT would weigh at least half as much (maybe even less than that). Only concern is that Sil is in receivership/bankruptcy right now. Not a great time for the motorcycling industry, globally.
