Title: trackday weapon...
Post by: zooom on November 16, 2010, 04:39:38 AM
...most of us that participate regularly in this section have a dedicated race/track bike....I myself have a Monster900 that I have slowly transformed to what it is now, and even then, it isn't a perfect track weapon by any means...

then I spotted this (on a different site than these-but these links present it better)

http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/bikes/beon-sxv-450/ (http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/bikes/beon-sxv-450/)

http://www.beonautomotive.es/ (http://www.beonautomotive.es/) (the makers direct website)

now, I know we have talked about dirtbikes converted for roadracing and so forth, but this one looks a bit different somehow...like maybe they got the formula right possibly?!?!?...but it seems to me, that it'd be a pretty lethal bike with tons of potential ( as long as you don't have vastly long 160+mph straights) and if I were in the position to be purchasing a new track bike ( aside from the SS900 that ML has that used to be DP's) then I'd think I'd have to try and find a way to see about making this happen...

4000 Euro?

Too pricey for my track bike, but it would be fun.

I didn't say it was a bad deal.

I said it was too much for me.

I have about $4300 in the purchase of my 996 including the Dymags.

I will easily spend the difference in just tires over time.

Add the seemingly inevitable rocker arm failures   [bang] [bang], but it's over time and easier for me to do.

Awesome bike :)

Aren't other companies (e.g. Roland Sands) making track bikes out of dirt bike motors? I recall reading about them in RRW.

you might be talking about formula 450?

I think so. But I thought some shops were building kits or full bikes for that.

Would definitely be fun. I've heard those Ape dirtbike/supermoto twins are a nightmare for maintenance though.  :-\

Something like full top end rebuilds every 4-5 k. Shit, If I was willing to do that I'd just try to get my hands on a 2stroke 250 gp.

is it strange for that to sound like a good time to me?

That's sweet, but given the size of the RSV, I wonder if the woman in the pic is over 4 feet tall.

Might be a fun ride, but I'll stick with the Gixxer. Still seems like a lot of scratch.

She's a model, so I'm gonna say she's pretty tall, plus she's wearing uber high stilettos. What I'm more disturbed about is the fact that she looks like a zombie stalking it's prey.

Maybe their motto is: "So fast, they wont be able to see how ugly you are..."

when you can buy fully sorted, cheap to maintain japanese track bikes all day long (incl the SV for those that feel all gushy about twins).. i mean, it's cool n all, but only on paper.

I did the supermoto thing for a while and at first it's a hoot.  AFter a fashion getting passed all day on the straights by 600's and 1k's after I worked so hard to get past them in the twisty bits got frustrating.  [bang]

Now if I was on a track with only 450 SMs that might be a different story.

That said, I'm itching to slap on the slicks and hit the track.

I agree with GM on the Japanese bike thing.

Awesome concept, but would it be competitive in any race classes?  I don't know about other clubs, but the club at Miller allows big air-cooled twins in the lightweight class, and there's at least one guy running a 324lb, 100+hp F042.  I was also under the impression that there are Bimota DB7s racing in CCS lightweight twins.

here in the cra it would race ultralight against m620's and unlimited singles.  and it would be a choice tool since even regular 450f's destroy everything else in the class.  however it takes relialibity to win a championship.  As i displayed by winning 3 out of 4 UL classes on my 620 this year.  will that ever happen again; doubt it except for the ss class'.  I think with wera it would race sv's like in ccs but without the bigger aircooled bikes?  lets be serous; motards are faster better handling bikes than most lw and under bikes on the grid.  i can back this up because i race supermoto as well and have a 450f.  a motard is a better bike because it weighs 100+ lbs less than most track bikes and costs a fraction.  the 450's are getting more and more reliable by the year.  my yamaha had over 20 track days and race days on it and the valves were perfect at the end of the season.  hands down best race bike i've ever owned. finding parts for those is only gonna get harder.  used 250's are easy to find on wera.  their value is really low. [bacon]

how about the feeling of passing these 1000's and 600's in every corner on the brakes and hamfisting out of every corner sideways?  maybe you should try supermoto if you want to race against 450's.  supermoto junkie can point you towards your closest club.  its way cheep compaired to road racing. At first it was awesome stalking the big bikes and putting a pass on in the corner.  But like most of us you always want to go faster and you always want to feel like you're progressing, even if it's just a track day.

Bottom line, any day at the track beats a day at work.   [clap]

to contradict myself a bit, i have a neighbor that races a 125.  talking to him really makes me think about it...  i doubt i'll get into it, but he sure does make a compelling case for the tiny 2-strokes.

greg i'm telling you supermoto is where you will want to be. and gm check wera there are people unloading 2 strokes with tons of spares all the time.  unfortionataly im a fat ass and look like a rhino raping a cat on one otherwise i'd be there too. [bacon]

Yeah, I've been seriously thinking about one of them, until I get a reality check and realize 5'10'' 190 lbs and a 250 don't mix.

my neighbor is prolly 5'8", 160-170.  he just won the 125 class @ WSMC this year.

oh i hear ya.. 10-20 for me, and i'm taller than you.  he's 'compact' but not small.. i'm just sayin' that if he can race the little rubber kids that have 50lbs on him, maybe a larger person can make use of a 250.

i'm sure we'd both look absurd tho  =)

there are guys in our club who are faster on a 250 than 98% of the guys on 450's and above.  if you are fast in the dirt you can school most roadracers and then block on them on the pavement and work your way through the pack and to the front.  there are plenty of guys who are big racing 250's and are fast as stink. Last track day I was at, I looked down the pit area and saw a guy with his RS125 in his pit.
Thinking, oh, hey, 125 2-strokes are cool, that might be fun.

Walked over....uhhhh...no.
Dude was Pedrosa sized.
Seat was about knee level.
At 6'1", I just don't fold up that small.  :P

I've briefly ridden a TZ250, small, but it would be do-able.

a buddy of mine whom I was constantly going to the track with was always fidgeting with his TZ250 and he was 5-10/11 and weighing in at 175/180-ish and he had a block made to raise the seat height on the tailpiece about an inch in order to put him in his "sweet spot" and then he stopped fidgeting with the framework and just stuck to rejetting and riding it....it was crazy how fast he was about pulling out the carbs and switching jets between sessions and still have time to hydrate and pee and snack...LOL

Back in the days of the aircooled Yammis we'd swap top ends between races so the bike could be either a 250 or 350.

They are pretty easy to work on.

they're kinda designed with that specifically in mind, though.

WELL...to a degree I can understand that...it is just the timeframe of it all to get it all done in 30 mins and be back out on track by himself without any help from anyone...

Reminds me of my RD350 and RD400 days with Toomey expansion chambers and K&N pod filters. Can you say plug chop? I knew you could. [cheeky] How often is that done these days? Probably just stumped half the board. [laugh] We need an old fart/2010 bike dictionary! ;D

i've done my share, but no need to do 'em anymore since you can check the fueling w/ a sensor.

Progress. Takes all the fun out of it.  ;) I may go out and do a "chop" today just for old times sake. [laugh] Hmmm, where's that plug socket? One part of "progress" I don't like is how fast gas turns to shit in a carb float bowl these days! Even using Sta-Bil in my gas can my Honda mower succumbed to the nasty evaporating effects. A Honda mower for Christ sake!!! [bang] Gas sucks and I saw that they are talking about doubling the ethanol. Ugh!! OK... end of gas rant and threadjack. Back to trackday weapons and plug chops. [cheeky]
