Title: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: redxblack on November 17, 2010, 06:56:34 AM Does this happen to you? Have you looked at your bike and said "it's done," and decided not to mod further? Is this a passing phase? I suppose when I get home I should take a few pics and post them, but I think I have finished "fixing" my not broken 2000 M900ie.

Post some pictures and we'll help you. Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: zooom on November 17, 2010, 07:09:13 AM for most people...the mod bug is closely associated with the free range ability of casual expenditure from their wallet
Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: matt922 on November 17, 2010, 07:14:13 AM you sure it doesn't mean you are ready for another bike?
Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: xcaptainxbloodx on November 17, 2010, 08:01:28 AM you definitely get the point where anything you can do would be so expensive and the returns so mild that you just call it done.
then something comes along that you thought was unattainable and damn it, that gets put on. then another, then another... then you look at the bike one day and decide to go a totally different direction, so the old mods get torn off and sold and you start again from scratch. sigh. Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: muskrat on November 17, 2010, 08:46:22 AM I wish, I'd be retired by now with the money spent [evil]
If you are complacent start surfing the web more or post pics like mentioned above, we can help Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: Artful on November 17, 2010, 08:53:23 AM Pfft. Right.

Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: Pedro-bot on November 17, 2010, 09:38:44 AM There are documented periods of remission from the mod bug. This has been well established in the literature.
But don't worry, you're not cured. There is no cure and the symptoms will soon return. [coffee] Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: Bick on November 17, 2010, 12:44:52 PM Only when I reach in my pocket and find no money.

Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: fastwin on November 17, 2010, 01:28:44 PM You haven't installed a turbo or nitros kit yet have you? Just trying to help. ;D
In all seriousness I have reached that point on a few of my bikes, mostly my Jap sbks. I still look at some of my bikes and wonder what's next. Hard to justify much when I'm still job hunting. :P When I go on a day long ride and if "she who must be obeyed" isn't in a real cheery mood I get to hear how I "wasted the day" riding when I could have spent it job hunting. [bang] So no mods for me anytime soon on anything. My favorite mod at the moment is putting gas in the tank and watching the numbers on the odometer roll over. Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: roy-nexus-6 on November 17, 2010, 01:59:52 PM I'm not interested in belt covers or clip ons, so I think I'm set. [thumbsup] A nice looking bike! I suppose you could always take off the side covers? Doing so opens up the rear, and only take a couple of mins. ;D Full disclosure: Removing the side covers sometimes necessitates: - hours of fun trying to re-hide the electrical components the covers hide. - can sometimes results in people dis-assembling the entire bike so they can grind back the tabs, and repaint the frame - extensive re-modifications as owners re-mod their bike to match the new frame color. Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: Artful on November 17, 2010, 02:31:06 PM That front fender looks pretty big, might be time to chop it...
Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: stopintime on November 17, 2010, 03:01:34 PM Front fender cut and/or partially painted.
Rotor carriers painted. Clear glass front signals. Black forks. Black head light ring. Red Electraeon quick throttle cam. Red loud Hella horn. Db killers out. Rim tape. Foot pegs. Or none of them, because you're done? [moto] Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: Veloce-Fino on November 17, 2010, 03:11:12 PM Put some reflectors on the forks. Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: Grrrly on November 17, 2010, 04:34:25 PM you're certainly NOT done!
You need to get rid of those chicken strips. ;) Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: redxblack on November 17, 2010, 04:47:34 PM I laughed pretty hard at the reflector mod suggestion. Well played! [thumbsup]
The chicken strips will have to wait for spring and tracktime. You can only lean it so far commuting to work, even on the backroads. Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: Spidey on November 17, 2010, 04:49:47 PM The chicken strips will have to wait for spring and tracktime. Not true. Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: redxblack on November 17, 2010, 06:46:10 PM powder coated rearsets work pretty well, and the airbox is open already. lighter wheels would be cool, but I'd get the same advantage if I lay off the [bacon] [bacon] [bacon]

Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: sbrguy on November 17, 2010, 11:01:52 PM Put some reflectors on the forks. EXACTLY!!! I have been telling that to people for years. but seriously i would put them back on. also don't worry about the bike, if you are happy with it, just ride the thing and enjoy it as much as you can. I think there does come a time that you feel that most of the "bling" stuff you want on a bike is done and anything else is just sort of diminishing returns on money spent, and at that point its time to enjoy the fruits of your labor which is riding a bike that you truly enjoy riding and it looks EXACTLY the way you want it. What more can you ask for when riding a motorcycle? Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: danaid on November 17, 2010, 11:20:37 PM Looks like you've done just about everything bolt on. ;) I think you need a different bike to get your mod juices flowing again. baffles are in because I just got this set and haven't cut the rivet yet. Also, as you can tell by the garage, it's condo living. I'm usually a nice neighbor. Right now I am SO glad I closed the door to the garage before snapping pictures. I can only imagine the comments. ha. Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: Artful on November 18, 2010, 09:47:15 AM I couldn't help but notice the OEM cluster. Might I suggest a nice Motogadget or Trail Tech? Much smaller, more features, and damn near plug n play.
Honest. Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: orangelion03 on November 18, 2010, 10:41:22 AM Levers and front turn signals.

Your bike looks great - if ever you get the bug just think "how many tires can I get instead of buying X?"
That usually makes me realize that what I should be doing is riding more and modding less. Hmm.. I'm out of money and need tires. This advice would have been helpful a few months ago. Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: Cloner on November 19, 2010, 08:24:19 AM I think it's perfect as it sits. Ride it. If you're happy with it, screw anyone who thinks otherwise. If they wanna mod it, let them buy their own and pay for all of the crap to foul it up whilst you're out riding and enjoying yourself.
This is what I decided to do about 10 years ago. I've been riding since. The only time I modify anything on the bike is when it needs (and I do mean NEEDS) repairs.....like when it takes a dive head first into a ditch or leaks crude like the Exxon Valdez (like right now...time to replace seals on the vertical head). Your Monster looks great to me! Title: Re: I think the mod bug has passed Post by: Pedro-bot on November 19, 2010, 09:07:13 AM I think it's perfect as it sits. Ride it. Wait. Am I insane? Humph. I'll ask Duc Stu later. He'll be honest with me. ;D I'm dead serious about mods, though. I've had a Supersport for over ten years that's ridden like it's stolen (see Avatar picture to the left), but mods are few and far between. I mean, it gets a set of tires ever 2k miles or so, but that's about it. Motorcycles are for riding, not wrenching. Since I haven't spent tons of money on mods over the years I just get to buy MORE motorcycles!!! Hence the addition of an MH900e (unmodded) and an HD/Aermacchi racer (heavily modded...but it is a racer, after all) in recent years. Nice Avatar, by the way. For a fan of cheesy kung-fu flicks, like me, that's frikkin' hilarious. [thumbsup] I figure if the owner would rather ride than wrench, then he's OK in my book! Keeps the ol noggin fresh! I am the King of this....if the wife asks how or why, I can instantly spew drivel about how I sold this to get the money for that, etc. All true, but imagine if I used this creativity for the benefit of mankind. I'd change the world, I tell ya.
