I know it's two months away at this point, but those two months will be gone before we know it. Once they are gone, IMS will be in town. Obviously I'm planning to go and I know some of the rest of you are. So might not be so bad to sketch up a little meet up plan - there's some rockin' breakfast joints near there that I like to hit before dealing with the masses.
But on to the show. I'm hoping to:
- Get to try on some AGV helmets in the hopes that they fit
- Boggle at the Devil and see if it's as ugly in real life as all the photos.
- See some of the other new models.
- Execute bad touching on the MTS1200
- Kick some tires and put the girl on some bike to feed her moto lusting
I'd be in for this....hopefully someone will have the jewel of my eye there for me to lust over...
In.
I should be in for this.
In as well, and thanks for the reminder, I always end up forgetting about these things. [bang]
It was a kinda sad time last year thanks to the worldwide slump - it'll be a good indicator of the economy if this year's show has mo' better vendors and displays. If I recall only the MultiStrada was new.
yeah - there were a few new things - like the BMW Adventure 800.. but oh yeah, BMW didn't have a booth. Yes, last year definetly seemed more low key than I'd seen previous years.
No Buell last year, too (:'(). I always spent a lot of time kicking tires at their booth; it had a confident underdog vibe that always appealed to me.
well...I'll bet there will be no Buell again this year...
last year there was no official booth for KTM, Aprilia, BMW, Ural, Moto Guzzi, or Triumph as well...
all of whom had booths in the past....but now are only there as some individual dealer brings models of those brands of their own accord for the public to face and make a sales opportunity from that....
It'd be great if Eric Buell Racing had a booth though... ;D
Speaking of Eric, I read a recent interview of him by Alan Cathcart. He seems pretty upbeat about his future projects, wish him the best [thumbsup]
Looks like Ducati is not coming to town:

Oh weak sauce... man Cleveland gets a visit and we don't? Horse crap...
I know. Here's a review of the San Mateo show from another board:
"PS, pathetic showing.
Thanks, Progressive, for sponsoring the 3 manufacturers who still pretended to care. "
I do not know if it is just the economy or these shows are not selling themselves to the manufacturers. With Ducati and KTM MIA, I'm passing.

Same goes for Triumph. What the hell?
Looks like most of the manufacturers are skipping the east coast altogether. NY gets a few. Daytona is particularly screwed - only Suzuki.
I'll still go drink a bunch of light beer and try on leather chaps. Afterward there's Korean BBQ in China Town. It's a tradition.
Triumph bailed a year or two ago. Local dealers had all the Triumph models on display at the time.. but you'd think with the number of new/revised release they have Triumph corp might give a showing.
Hopefully DucPond will be flying the banner
DucPond will be the "official" ducati rep there... basically the DucPond booth will be the Ducati booth. I'll be working there all weekend, make sure you stop by and say hi.
Save $5... Blame the economy.

EDIT: This promotion expires Friday, 9:00 AM EST.
I got a thing from IMS in my EMail for a 2 day pass for $10....

Charlie, will Donnie have a Diavel ( either one of his or a loaner from DNA) for display?
Hope DNA will kick some support their way. Not like DucPond/Donnie has enough awards for being the top tech and service shop to choke a horse or anything...

I got the teaser but not the follow-up (Grrrr). Figured this would be my best chance at a discount. Not entirely convinced this year's show will even be worth a $10 cover.

Yes, there should be at least one, maybe two (the base model and the Diavel Carbon)
Charlie is correct... We will be there flying the Ducati banner.. Right on manufacturer row no less! We are right before the marketplace on the left in a nice big booth... We are closing the shop down on Fri and Sat to staff this too.. We are bringing 2 bikes.. a MTS 1200 S Touring, and 848 EVO, and Ducati is shipping in 2 Diavels.. a Carbon and a standard.. the Carbon will be in our booth, and the standard is going over to a joint coleman/Battley booth to help spread the word as much as possible..
Come by and say hi, drop a deposit (hint hint.. lol), buy some shirts, and check out the cool stuff that WILL be there still!
Chad @ Duc Pond
Dang..... :o
I may hit the NYC show instead.
:-\
According to the radio ad, if you buy tix online use 'radio' as the promo code, if you don't have a better coupon for a couple bucks off
Also, good until 9AM EST on the 13th, use promo code SAVE5 for a $10 ticket. Small print says good for 1 ticket only, though.
Assuming the roads are clear is anyone interested in riding to this or will all you nancies be caging it? :D

Just as an FYI parking around there sucks and I think the convention center lots don't allow motos (ironically)
That's hilarity.
Isn't it though.
I'll be going in 4 wheels as I'm working up a car pool.
Guess I should fly my DMF gang colors for the day while I'm at it...
I would too, but where am I going to find a pink paisley bandana on such short notice?
REI - they have everything :)
I'll be on the lookout for a man with a porn-stache and pink bandana.. then I'll flee
I'm in for Sat. morning. Where's breakfast?
See the Roll Call thread.
To all those who made it: Good to see you there! [thumbsup] Sorry I lost you guys when I darted for the Norton stand, I just couldn't contain myself ;D
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the Battley Cycles guys who brought out some nice and very very nice bikes.
Here's Lars cooing on the Street Fighter:

And here I am on the Tesi 3D, happy like a kid at Toys-R-Us ;D This really is the only bike in the world I would seriously consider dropping so much money on.

They didn't have the new models, just nicely restored old ones. Talked to a guy (Robert, I think) from the
Nation's Capital Norton Owners (http://www.ncno.org) club about the new series and he said they're starting to come along. There's a dealership in San Francisco, and prices are around 16K.
I went today with my boy. Except for the stunting, it stank hard.
No manufacturer's pavilion for BMW, Ducati, KTM or any european manufacturer. Fortunately Ducpond and Coleman were there with Ducati bikes, but wow, I was surprised.
It really seemed like the show was 1/5th the size. The vendors were the same, plenty of anti-fog spray sellers [roll]

And people selling patches for all the 99%ers there.
i have to say that the new zx10r is a great bike along with the gsxr600 both of those bikes are really compact, the new ninja zx10r for a liter bike feels like a supersport if not smaller, its insane.
The only interesting bike i saw was the new CBR250R. Specs say it's 359 lbs, which based on my 2 minute review could probably be dropped to about 325-330 just by removing the exhaust and intake setup. The little 250 thumper looks good.
got to agree the honda 250 felt like a bicycle when you sat on it, and made the ninja 250 seem like a big bike compared to it.
