OK....I had about decided on an 1100 as my local dealer has some in stock and is hesitant to get a 796 until he sells some of his remaining 696s and 1100s....but....

The 796 may be just what I need.  I think I may like the slipper clutch better than the dry clutch and I've read that the 796 getsbetter gas milage than the 1100 or the 696.  Also, I believe that all 2011 monsters will have ABS at no additional charge.

I guess I'll drive 3 hours this weekend to look at a 796 at another dealer.

Any other reasons to pick one of these over the other?

The 796 is a great choice...  very predictable power delivery, nice package overall.  There are probably deals on 2010 1100's as well but I do like that motor in the 796!!

+1 if you have the $$ and want the best of everything, get an 1100evo.

i much prefer the exhaust on the 1100evo.

of course the 1100 will get worse mpg, but i'm sure it won't be so buzzy at highway rpms(if you do a bit of interstate ?).  If you don't want the extra power and marginally worse mpg, then by all means go for the 796(i'd love one myself).

the mpg differences on any of these isn't as different as you're making it out to be.  we're talking maybe 10 miles more to a tank, if that.

The 695 is like an improved version of my M750.  More HP, a little less torque, complete with fuel injection and probably better suspension and at least as stiff of a frame.

I've had plenty of serious fun with my M750.  So long as you're not expecting to do 'Busa style 150MPH+ roll-ons on the highway, you'll probably be just fine on the 695.  The M750 handles surprisingly well has lots of torque for the twisties.  I'm sure you'll find the M695 similar.

FYI - the 796 turned out to be not buzzy at all.  At 6th, 4000rpm puts me at roughly 80mph, which is my favorite and most confortable cruising speed, winds and all things considered.

Simple equation really.

M1100 costs more and makes more power.  M796 is less expensive and goes less hard.  

Who's in charge of what you ride?  Your wallet or your adrenalin gland  [evil] ??

If you have the cash and can wait, get the 1100evo.  More power, ABS, DTC, the whole deal.

Otherwise, get a 2010 796 ABS, you won't regret it.

I said 2010 because it has Showa front forks, which I prefer to the Marzocchi's on the 2011 model.

The 695 is from strictly a numbers view a fuel injected version of my M750.  Similar frame, similar power, but the 695 is injected.  Therefore, my experiences I mentioned should be similar to the 695 as far as handling and highway riding.

The OP however was asking for a comparison between Monster 796 vs. Monster 1100, not 695 and 750.
Or did you mean to offer your comparison of 695 vs 750 as an analogy to 796 vs 1100?

Not doubting your right to an opinion in any way, you are of course entitled to hold this view.  I'm just wondering how you know this?  Have you ridden the Marzocchi M796?

I knew someone would jump on that :)  I did not say better, simply prefer.

Anyhow, my opinion is baseless.  I just prefer the Showa M796 because I own one ;D

Performance-wise, eveyone I talk to says they're pretty much similar.

My opinion here and answering Uger's too, seeing as the new 796 ABS is being offered for the same price as the older ones, there must be a cost cutting and only change was the forks....just saying.
