Title: SoCal Newbie in need of some parts for her Monster
Post by: empress duc on November 21, 2010, 05:20:31 PM
hi everyone,

i'm recently relocated from DC to LA & i'm so pleased to see that the Italian bike night is basically in my neighborhood (bummed i missed the last one :-[ )

i've got a 2002 Ducati Monster 750 in the Senna color scheme.

anyway, on my way out to LA, whilst loading the bike into the truck, i dropped her.  [bang]

what i need is a few minor parts and would love to help installing them if possible.
  • right brake lever
  • front fairing
  • the plastic cover that goes around the throttle assembly
  • cowl (possible just buff / paint job)
  • bar-end lane splitter (forget the brand) right side mirror
  • undertail tag bracket (why does it cost $80 for a piece of bent metal with holes!?)

actual maintenance work that i could do (would prefer to do) but don't have everything i need:
the wiring to my dash is wonky so need help with that or recommendation of who might be able to take a look at it.
my throttle needs adjustment; runs a little low when first start up, so she cuts out before she's warm
and generally, would also love to change my own oil (with help) since i don't have the space or tools.

i'll get pics up as soon as i can.

thanks for reading and please let me know of any cheap part sources or good monster dyi wrenchers with whom i could study.

Unfortunately I don't have the parts but I'm sure one of the other locals will chime in with some offerings.

There were talks of a tech day happening but no one really decided on who would host, I live in an apartment so no hosting for me. Maybe that will happen soon and with everyone's combined knowledge and tools you'll get everything fixed.

As far as major fixes, I recommend Speeddog. A lot of the locals use him for repairs and tune ups. He's a great guy and does great work, although if you're somewhere in the Santa Monica area it might be a bit of a hike for you?

Oh, and welcome. Any time you're up for some riding drop a line!!!

Welcome to SoCal!

Ebay is a good source for a lot of the bits and pieces you are looking for.  What master cylinder does your bike use?  I have a set of levers I dont need and I'll give you the brake lever if it fits...consider it a housewarming gift  [moto]

I'm too far away to offer any mechanical assistance.

I have the rear duck-bill fender assembly ( complete from my tail chop) . If you could use it.. its yours.

I may have an extra bar-end also but I gotta check when I get back from work..

i've got the #@%*$& coffin type master cylinder and clip-on handlebars. thanks so much & i really appreciate it. perhaps i could take a look at an italian bike night if you come this way. if not, i can probably pay shipping to get em here.

i've got a tail chop too.  i'm actually looking for the type that looks like this
(http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/public/RrKydThf4MMDfclTitdO0HPwodREzzUhlNCy6HmHOi7nJ_Vst3H33gUL3xOaQoO2yYS85mM8XoBBIk9dChz2GPAr9B6rkpZRU4K0znQLX99MFkow57NR84mVcXPMLDnCAnKraJbWnuHuUyU9aO4XZq3-pFiPiewv)

and my bar end is a 4" lane-splitter, but i'll take it, whatever it is.

i suppose i should take some pictures.

thanks for all the help so far.  looking forward to getting my baby all pretty again.

If anyone can assist the empress that would be very cool.  She make a very nice meal as well. Hint -hint for parts  She also desperately needs to change the front & rear sprocket as well as the chain. give thanks & my love   [moto]

Might be able to help w/ the sprocket, chain, and oil change if I can round up some gas money. I've got a stand and tools. I can probably steal my dad's oil pan too. The truck is running on empty and I'm flat broke. I need a job.  :'( I'll PM you if I round up some funds.
