Interesting article...
I think your post title is a bit much........ By appearance alone you equate the company with the klan, and that seems to be solely based on the loose naming of a bike they made/named long ago....
but it made me look.
I dig Confederate bikes, particularly the Wraith [thumbsup]
The guy who wrote that commuted a journalistic sin of not doing his research
"I'm now VERY curious about that logo… it's open to interpretation and every person's sensibilities will vary, but I have the sneaking suspicion that the little dude in the logo is actually cracking a whip. Now, if he is cracking a whip, what exactly is he whipping? Am I missing something here?"
Yes you're missing something, research. Two clicks on their site brings you to a page that says the logo is David, of David and Goliath. This guy needed a tin foil hat.
I'm no fan of associations the stars n bars has... but I'm less of a fan of spurious conclusions like that.
Oh my god! Something that if twisted enough and doublethought can be construed as racist! Somebody call Jesse Jackson! Only HE can save us now....
Idiot
Hellcat is a neat bike
Wraith wastes a cool name on a lame bike, should have named it Mantis given that hideous front end
P120 is very interesting
but
as with all Confederate bikes
the seat
makes my prostate hurt just looking at it
I'm so tired of people looking for something to offend them. Now at least I know that the easily offended race baiters will not want to be seen riding one.
Good riddance, and best wishes to the folks at Confederate.
I have to say that makes me a mite nervous..
Naming a bike after Nathan Bedford Forrest is pretty sketchy.
Then again, they also named a bike after CSA's VP Judah P Benjamin who was Jewish, which would not be kosher with the KKK at all.

well it is intereting that the company would not respond or even deny and say the journalist is wrong.
silence at times will say as much as a guilty admission.
personally i think their bikes are downright ugly but hey each to their own.

Interesting, but not condemning. It's a small company that probably doesn't have anyone set to deal with emails. Shit slips through the cracks. Could also have been a case of them getting the email and saying "Oh man, not this nut job" and tossing it in lieu of dealing with a Troll. Of course it's possible he's right... But really I doubt it's some racist/KKK conspiratorial business they are running - it's just too complicated.
Assuming something is true because you lack proof to the contrary is flawed logic.

All I can say is when they were at Javits Center last year an owner was there accompanied by one of his key sales reps. The sales rep was a young black guy.
He says they haven't responded, and who knows how long he gave them, or if they would even take the "Is your logo racist (or whatever the make the beast with two backs he asked them) seriously. Utter horseshit.
This is how it works. I sent SBRguy a PM (ten minutes ago) the asking if he did indeed, grind up kittens to feed to Michael Vicks dogs.
He hasn't responded-the silence only assures his guilt.
See how that works?
The "journalist" is an attention-seeking race-baiting offended person of color. The bike is what it is. The "journalist" made the KKK connection in his psyche, and brought his race into it. It is not Confederate's job to set this guy right, show him he's wrong and deny him of the chip on the shoulder, victimhood, and all that nonsense.
The guy is on a mission to bring Confederate into PC conformity. Ain't going to work.
Don't read more into the silence than what it is, they are building unconventional and non-conforming bikes and ignoring an attention seeking little person who wants to inject his agenda into their agenda.
Other than that, nice bike pictures.

Well, what did happen to those hookers? I think that's our topic ;D
Wasn't the topic about how badass the bike was? Somebody wore a CNC machine plumb out on that one. And hookers are awesome. I love hookers.
Those hookers are being paid hourly!!!!

[drink]
Have at the hookers.
No, the Kansas Kashrut Kehilla
Naming anything after Nathan Bedford Forrest is really problematic. Even if he wasn't the founder of the Klan, he would still be a war criminal that killed American troops. Even if it was 15 years ago. Their website tends to rationalize southern secession by talking about rebellion in a romanticized way. It's not like I'd buy one of their bikes anyway, but I really can't buy into the brand identity they're pushing.

The journalist is the former goldenchild. He is a member named soth now. He is far from racist. I'm on my cell now so I don't have time to type. One of my customers bought both bikes and keeps them on display in his foyer in manhatten. He likes mechanical art. I have a pic of me sitting on one.
The bike is definitely interesting. I'm not exactly sure what to make of it but being an artilleryman, I'll give it a [thumbsup] just because of the crossed cannons.
They are definitely mechanical art, and must be seen in person. 8)
Mmmm....pretty machined bits....
wow... so people post an opinion on something on the internet and they are a "journalist". You guys really should just go chill and celebrate the holiday! [bacon] [bacon] <~~turkey bacon
Great now you're going to get excoriated for suggesting "turkey bacon."

Nobody pointed out that the article is nearly a year old.
it was a long time ago, far away, they all must die!!!!
Guys and Gals - that article was written about a year ago, and I assure you, SOTH is not a paid journalist.
As Mook mentioned, he's a DMF'er as well - Goldenchild as he is/was known around here. That's his blog you found.
If I remember, his assumptions about the bike were eventually proven wrong by the company itself.
Move along - nothing to see here.
Well since he is a member here, let's hear what he has to say now. [coffee]

He didn't grind them up first-he set them on fire. Something about a hot meal on the go.

as an aside the only other Jewish military cemetery outside of Israel is in Richmond Va. for Jewish Confederates
Very interesting although I believe there was a jewish military cemetery in berlin from ww1 but they were disinterred.
For the record there ain't no way Goldenchild is even the tiniest bit racist.
What a BS article.

Myself as an outsider, I have to ask, as one of the biggest and most diverse country, are you guys ever going to settle your race issues? What would it take to stop the finger pointing and name calling? Again I'm just an outside observer.

It will probably take a few more generations. To my wife (She's Black) the rebel flag is almost akin to the Nazi flag, to young white kids it just means rebellion and sticking it to the man. To others the flag is very unpatriotic. I think it's in bad taste myself. I think it would take people coming to grips with the fact that all people descended from a common ancestor as DNA evidence strongly suggests. But you can only lead a horse to water.

I kinda take offense to that question, though i know you didnt mean it that way, but its the individual who has to stop hating. What if i were to tell you i met someone of your race who was being racist towards me? really doesnt matter where that person lives.

Amazing how a comment can be so smug and ignorant at the same time. Maybe it was a rhetorical question, because I believe the answer lies within the question. Please show me a country as large and diverse as this one... then one with no race issues?
[popcorn]
Back to motorcycles... The Confederate name always turned me off a bit because it conjures up the image of Jim-Bob and Skeeter putting together bikes, BUT these bikes are NOT that. I love their robot/machine industrial look. I can also dig the "David vs Goliath" logo, small high-end shop taking on the big guys.
They do appear to have a new logo on their site, along with a new bike.
It's too bad they moved out of New Orleans, that and lack of 75K stops me from buying one.

sort of a loaded question given there's only two countries on the planet larger than the united states (one of them being canada, incidentally).
i don't think the original question is so unreasonable. race relations in the united states is a big part of our history and
still makes current news.
while 'racism' exists in other parts of the world, it generally seems framed in the context of religious/cultural diversity and/or xenophobia.

Somebody is always looking for something to be offended by. I try to use body odor to offend people myself. As far as the Confederate flag goes, well, to me it isn't any more racist than Rap music. My old man was from the south. He wasn't particularly tolerant, but he wasn't blatant about things, either. So, some people are offended by the flag. What about the chopper guys that wear chrome Nazi helmets? The shape of those helmets probably offend a lot of people. What about when someone says something looks ghey? Because it's spelled wrong, gays aren't supposed to be offended by it?
Much ado about nothing. And those bikes aren't "High end". They're unrideable image machines.
