Ducati Monster Forum

Can we see a show of hands? Who will be interested in a track day at Eastern Creek? I know there are plenty of people out there who like the idea but never get round to it. If we book far enough in advance we can surely get a decent roll up. It will be very hot over the next coiple of months anyway so how about Feb / March?

what i meant is that by having you in a different group than most of us cos' lats face it - white is the colour of the day on a track for some of us ..... after your seesion is finished, you have time to grab your camera and pick a vantage point(s) to take few pictures before your group is due again

It is well worth the experience, no cops, no trees, no guard rails & no one coming the other way. We may also come, see what's happening closer to the day

i've been twice in a yellow group but i rather stay in white
it's too risky with a guys on a fast bikes without a skill to match. their overtaking maneuvers on many occasions were too risky in my view and i don't want to be taken down by some boy-racer

Pretty flexible with the date, so will just work around the consensus. 

C'mon guys - if you haven't done a track day before, give it a go!  Book into the white (slow) group. You'll get two laps behind an official California Superbike School instructor, and you'll also get one free lesson from the same instructor during the day on cornering techniques.

Just treat it as a fast road ride. In fact, if you're worried that it may be TOO fast - don't be! You can go at your own pace - it's not a race. And with everyone going the same direction, and no dogs, cars, kids, trucks to worry about - it's relatively safe.

No need for a track bike really I can't justify it for 2 or 3 times a year that I might go to the track.
Brian it's just the fact that my bike no very standard anymore and when I go to the track the red mist comes out and I find it hard-ish to just ride at a comfortable pace and not chase hard around the track.

Different track

so there is a question ...if you were to buy a track bike....do you a) buy a chea ???p jap number that goes forever and is easy/cheap to fix ..............or B) follow the heart and do another Ducati or MV and do the maint ??......there is no right answer but im interested in your thoughts ???

I am happy to give you a ride of the M.V if it helps make the decision.... Conditions Apply (you Fu$% it you fix it!)

In regards to the maintenance, I have now done 6 track days on the M.V. Oil and Filters only!  Touch Wood, yes it cost a bit more to start with but I have no concerns at all about the reliability. I will soon be up for brake pads, I will change all the fluids and spark plugs when I do them. All in all its my preference to replace these parts before they need it. Maybe that has something to do with its Heritage but I would do it if it were a japper anyway.
With the interweb thingy these days its just so easy to collect heaps of info, boards like this and helpful people have narrowed the gap between the uber-reliable jappers and the more desireable makes for the common lay-person. After stripping the M.V down to a frame twice now I am confident with any repairs that may be necessary, diagnosing is the hard bit.
For me no brainer, I ride bikes because I love them. I love the engineering and design considerations that go into Italian bikes. Whether its a track bike or a commuter, I will always buy the bike that taps into that part of the brain that says "Its not practical, its more than I wanted to spend... but I got to have it!"

Is someone wise to the ways gonna try and grab us a garage?

Best idea is to just get there before the gates open, and then grab a garage. Spread your stuff around so that people know there are more bikes coming in. We should all swap phone nos as well so that we can coordinate.


By the way, there are a heap of Ducatisti doing a track day on Saturday the 22nd of January.  If you're interested, get in quick. There may not be many spots left (they're filling fast this year!)

As some of you might know, I've decided to go racing this year. I'm hoping to do all of the DOCNSW rounds - half of which are St George and half are Formula Extreme rounds.

Unfortunately, the FX round is on the Saturday following this 9th of March Wed. No big deal, except that I've been informed that one of the rules in the FX rounds is that you can't have a practice day at the track you're racing on within seven days of the race meeting.

I thought that rule might only apply to A graders, but when I checked with the office, Gloria assured me that it applies across the board.  [bang]

So, I've got to pull out of this EC trackday. 

Bummer.

OMFG... What an afternoon. Got home to load up the bike, started the bike and did my normal check. Next thing I am getting sprayed with fuel. Turns out one of the 20c plastic connectors on the bottom of the tank is cracked. I have chased around madly tonight, got hold of the new Sydney MV distributor (Trooper Lu's Garage, top bloke) who is going to open up for me in the morning and give me some new ones (metal).
Just incase I have loaded both bikes onto the trailer...
I will be out at the track at sparrows fart, hopefully be able to park the trailer in a garage, then shoot off to Moorebank and back in time to get it all back together without missing too much.
Oh well thats racing  [roll]  ;)

after accident-interrupted ... YET AGAIN ... 4th session, i called it a day. when i was leaving at the begin of session 5, 8 bikes in total went down. absolute carnage. in one session 2 bikes went down in a yellow group; on a first and on a last lap. all that was telling me to quit while i'm ahead

Well I got back a little while ago too.

With the 4th session cut in two (about two laps each for me) and the fifth session cutback (I s'pose to make up time) I bailed early too. Nice trip home up the old road [evil]

Mate, I unloaded it, stripped it down ready and some bloke dumped his bike on turn 5 (or 7) and waited around for about 45 min before they got going again. I got the shits with all that had happened so I took it as a sign and packed up.
The thought of binning the monster with the track bike sitting in the trailer would of been a disaster.

Yeah understand dude. I'd cry if you scratched that bike as well :)

I heard about the accident - some fellow highsided it on T7 apparently, and broke his pelvis. Because the track day wasn't fully booked out, they'd only paid for one ambulance, which is why there was a 45 min wait while the one unit carted old mate to the hospital and returned.  [thumbsdown]

What ended up being the problem with the MV?.

I have learnt alot in last couple of weeks. I was told by some that to look for bubbles in the tank, that indicates a loose connection in the tank??? Sure enough bubbles there. Took tank apart, carried out thorough inspection of the lines from the pump and found absolutely nothing to suggest there were leaking connections. Noticed the other plastic connector from the return line was loose in the fuel hose so I removed that connector and replaced the plastic one for a metal one. Reconnected the tank and the bike started first go run like a dream. ??? by this time I am really confused.
Decided to replace the hose connections in the tank as a matter of maintenance and accidentally snapped the outlet connection off the pump  [bang]. Very dissapointed I decided to search for a replacement pump, turns out the pump is a very popular model, so popular in fact they stock them at Repco. Replaced the pump, plugged it all in bike starts and runs perfect..... But still bubbles in the tank  [thumbsdown].
The bubbles are coming from a small hose that is not connected to anything (and isn't supposed to be) I think its a purge lne or something.
Anyway, short answer to your question, I am not actually sure  :-[

I was down at EC watch the FX the other week, I timed a guy on a 450cc  chook chaser doing 1:48, what dose this tell ya  ??? Never underestimate the chook chasers i say   ;D

There is no shame getting done by a chookie! I got done by a dude on a 80cc Bucket (http://www.ozbucketracing.com/)at turn 6 a couple of weeks ago. I've seen whipper snippers with bigger engines - He must have had like, 13HP (seriously, i asked him later). This dude just knew what he was doing and had big kahunas.

im no track expert or anything like that, but to be honest that looks like they have killed what was a nice flowing track by merging a complex little go kart track onto the side of it. the section where they joined back to the old track seems to have an interesting little jump included!!

Although it is possible that video is on an intellectual level that I simply cannot comprehend ... I'm pretty sure it doesn't answer the question.

I’d like to take that beastie for a squirt looks well setup, though some tank grip would help pusher into the turns. Get rid of those ASV leavers mate if they are short, they are no good for brake input and feel, you’ll feel much more confident with full length leavers . They also force you to have a narrow grip on the bars which gives you less leverage on the bars for counter steering. Im sure you'll have a great time, its a beast  [thumbsup]
