Title: Custom Ducati Cafe Build
Post by: Travman on November 28, 2010, 06:01:36 PM
Here is a custom Ducati cafe build from another forum that has got me hooked.  I really like his homemade Pierobon style frame design and the use of a SS swingarm and 70's Imola style tank.

I've been watching this one too, very intriguing.

I like it to  [thumbsup]  I am a bit worried about the frame stiffness though, but I'm no engineer.  Hopefully someone that is can weigh in on it being stiff or having the potential to twist a bunch.

I'm a little disappointed on how he (and many other builders for that matter) choose to get rid of the FI as it's "too complex"

Given the benefits of FI (single biggest improvement on bikes in the last decade, IMO) it seems a shame to toss it.

Seems like there might be a market for an "aesthetically pleasing" FI system for custom builders...

Maybe it's just that the FCR's throttle response is just so awesome and FI can't seem to duplicate that feel.

I'm going to dispute the above statement, but then again I'm using the accelerator pump emulation in my PCIII

And FI system + PCIII (or aftermarket FI ECU) is getting into "pretty complicated" territory. I see your point.

Thanks for the tip about the accelerator pump emulation program.  I'm going to try it.  Is it new?  From what I've read it is only for the PCIII with the USB connection and luckily that is what I have.

It came out a few years back, I think.

Beats me why they discontinued it for the later models. Either they built it in a version of it that "does the right thing" based on the map you have into the later models, or it doesn't actually do anything  ;D

What exact model of PC3 is that?

PC3 USB model. These were the first models that came out with a USB connector (about 8 years ago)

If you need more information than that I can look on the bike.

Thx, just good-to-know info.

A PC3 part number & f what models & years would be nice.

Really beats me too why they discintinued this feature.... ???
Have you had any problems w it?

what is this fuel pump emulator?  i have a pc3 on my m800.  unfortunately, i'm still running the map from their website that doesn't really work perfectly for me, but it's better than nothing i guess.  what would the FPE potentially do for me?

thanks!

A fuel pump is a feature of some flat slide carbs - Basically it's a small fuel pump that squirts extra fuel when you twist the throttle.

The idea behind it is that when you suddenly snap open the throttle on a flat-slide carb, the bike may run lean for a moment and the extra fuel pumped in helps give a "snappier" throttle response.

The emulation is basically a setting in the Power Commander that adds extra fuel when it detects a big change in the throttle opening. Basically it attempts to do the same thing a carb fuel pump would do, only in a different way. Hence the whole "emulation" name

Beats me if it's actually needed, since carb fueling works on a completely different principle (Bernoulli's principle  ;D )  than FI. Regardless, my bike seemed to like some additional fuel being added via the software, but that's pure "butt dyno" since this isn't something they test for on a regular dyno.

As for the software, google "PCIII USB Accelerator Pump Enable" to figure out which model works with this.
