Title: Are you color blind or have color vision deficiency?

I have a friend who thought he had perfect vision just because he didn't need glasses.  It was kinda of funny to see his world crumble as he found out he was not as perfect as he thought.

Are you color blind or have color vision deficiency?

It would be cool if one of our female members was colorblind.   I think its like a half of 1 percent of the female population is color blind.

I'd hate to be colour blind like the guy who designed the Italian flag..

IMHO green just doesnt belong on a flag.  That said, I love my green Monster coz as everybody knows green is the fastest colour  [evil].

Contrary to popular belief, color blind people can actually read the make the beast with two backs the Color Blind one. It just takes a lot more work. When you look at them long enough, an observant person can see the definition of the numbers and a slight variation in the shades of grey. It's kind of like staring at a magic eye.

I hated those things! I was the only kid in school that could not get those to work.

So, I was the first one to vote colorblind/color deficiency. I can see most colors, just some of them seem the same to me. I can't read a lot of those circle blob things, I definitely can't see the 'boat', there isn't a boat there, you guys are screwing with me. I can read the T-shirt, it does take me a while, but yes I do know what it says, or at least I get the gist. I usually can't tell when I can't see the difference in certain colors, and particularly certain shades of similar colors like certain shades of blue and similar shades of purple are the same to me. Same problem with light greens and yellows (no, stop-lights are not a problem).

I am only color blind when my wife wants to paint a room or wall and whips out one of those paint color sample thingys from the Sherman Williams' paint store. You know, the God awful sample thingy that has about 150 cards of every color known to mankind. Who the hell knew there were 400 shades of green!! [bang] To me there's only British racing green! She shows me 25+ versions of what looks like the same damn color and wants me to pick one. I vapor lock right then and there. And me just saying "I don't know. They all look the same. You pick one." doesn't work. I'm apparently "not trying hard enough". Screw it, BRG is green enough for me. [thumbsup] Next time I'm using the color blind excuse.

I am also red/green color blind. D. W. pointed out most of the issues. One of the pluses is alot of animal camouflage's do not work for me, I'll see, say a pheasant long before anyone else......had this conversation more that once..."you don't see it??? it's right there, three fence post up under the little bush!!" So it's not all bad.

I dunno... according to those test I'm color deficient... or at least can't abstract the forms enough to come up with an answer. But, I make my living making graphics (web sites) and folks like my color sense. At the paint store I've got no problems telling you which of any of the millions of shades you just flashed and the difference in tin from that one to another.

So it makes me wonder - since I'm looking at it on my computer which can be adjusted for color, brightness and contrast what role that plays

Though, I just popped some into photoshop and started knocking out the blue and green channels... shit popped right out for me then. Hmmm

I've actually looked at the professional cards during our classes on vision developement, and got to get up and tell my class which ones I could/couldn't see, and tell them what they each looked like to me, and also tell them what the ones that non-colorblind people can't see (yeah they make them so that the color-seeing can't read them, kinda like the camoflage thing metioned earlier). My 'color-deficiency' is really mild, so I get most of both worlds. I can see MOST colors, plenty enough to get along, but camo doesn't work very well on me. "Stop hiding in the bushes during capture-the-flag, its not working, I can see you."

All the color vision tests are designed to be done under a particular light source (Macbeth Illuminant C) which is accurate for color and brightness. Since the color you see is decided in  large part by the light reflected from the object, a difference in lighting can make a big difference in perceived color. Ask your wife/GF why she doesn't like to put on makeup under fluorescent lights.

Either one, if he isn't familiar with it, then he may not be able to read it. Actually you should probably wear it, you might get a few people who didn't know they had a slight problem with color. I didn't figure it out until age 25 or so. Lots of people who even do see most or all colors don't even see them the same anyways, eg: women GENERALLY see color better than they can judge distance, whereas men tend to see differences in the distance of objects and see color differences less.

I just confused squares and triangles. There were triangles, right?
